Yo, I feel you on this one man. I tried to get out of the hobby, but honestly it works out if you dont. Just dont buy anything new for a while. Thats what I did to stay in the hobby.
Obviously I dont know the intricacies of your individual situation, but I hope that you can make some plan on budgeting your tank expenses and limiting it to food, electric and NECESSARY maintenance.

Hey man... we've all been through some financial trouble... I'm sure everyone can relate... maybe you can sell a couple things from the tank to pay for maintenance until the money situation evens out a bit. It would suck, but at least you'd be able to keep the tank for a little while.
Good luck

Ahhhh T, the reef blues.
To be honest bro, call me or Kris or any other reefers up.
We'll go out and chill and not just talk behind the computer.
Talk about stuff (not only reefs) and just chillax.
When we get obsessed with our hobbies...it's no longer a hobby IMO.
But I definitely understand what you mean...the reef blues.
You gotta go out and not think about your tank and not talk about reefs for a day or two and then come back home to enjoy it again.
You gotta miss it...

That's how I dealt with it dude.
Hit me up, you got my digits.

If you need to get out for the money, why not downgrade?

But if there are other factors, let us know.

Let me tell you how much I missed my tank while I was on tour. I'd go into pet shops just to stick my hand in salt water. I'd bee line to every public aquarium I could find.

If you completly give it up you WILL miss it.

Just dont upgrade and dont buy anything. Just maintain your tank as is and let it grow out. You got salt, you got water....that shouldnt cost you much. :)
Just dont buy anymore fish or corals or equipment. Set the tank on cruise control man...its like just moving in with a gf, you get sick of seeing each other all the time cause you need your space soemtimes bro...
Hypthetically, you wouldnt just dump your gf?...just like how you're thinking about dumping your tank would ya?. No, you would take a walk, cool off, drive in your convertible and listen to some road music to get a peace of mind.
Just take some time off, get some space...take a breathe meng :tongue1:
but don't take down the tank. It will be fine a day or two on its own dude.

Sh*t, I sound like the Reef Dr. Phil.

T,
Like Q said if you wanna talk you got the number. We can go chill just to have some time away from the tanks and just relax. Whatever you do decide to do you know we're here for you.

I was outta the hobby and you were one of the guys that helped me get back into it. Don't give up so easily. If theres anything u need, just gimme a ring.

Seriously.
Lately, with this 33g potential upgrade... It's been 10x a day.

i have been thinking about it lately too, so you are not the only one. thinking of going fish only. i need another car and this hobby just cost so damn much. but make your decision wisely. maybe start up a smaller tank, and just keep your most prized corals and then let them grow out.

Tony,

I usually try not to get involved in these things but I have to say that you are really into this hobby. Ultimately, you will probably find your way back into the hobby after selling your stuff off for a fraction and will need to buy everything back. Truthfully, the money equation is better where you are now, with most of the setup done. The other guys are right, stick to the bare essentials and hang in there, I doubt that you will regret it.

I agree with E and some of the rest ,Waht you need is a vaction .Also stop buying thing for your tank ,you got everything that you need already.Sit back enjoy what you have esitablished ,watch your corals grow and hang outon the site .Look at the stuf i get in sometimes ,What you think for one sec i dont want a frag or the colony for myself ,but i hold myself back.think about it ,We all get the blues.

Now if you do get out ,what sell everything for half price or less .then regret it and buy things new again or go crazy trying to find the same thing .JMO

Scoots,

DIBS on the PBT

;)

Bro, lets all meet up in SI and hit up a strip club, reefs and tits. trust me it solves things. :D

I disagree a bit with everyone else, I say if your really really sick of it, take a break, Ive almost been there w/ this upgrade and losing 90% of my stuff.

I tried to get kris out of it before w/ his 65g, he would be ok for awhile and go right back where he started, in the end the doubt of what your doing will drive u crazy its better to get it out of your system. He did and hes back with a renewed sense of what it is he exactly wants from his reefing experience.

And like I told Kris, some reefers were meant to be SPS'ers and others not so much, I know trying to be a BB SPS FLOW OVERPOWERED SKIMMER DUDE can be draining, maybe u need to do with ur tank exactly what you want to do with it. I am now, shiet im sandy :D

Either way I wish u well bro, follow ur heart, everything else is reversible, you can get it all back and come back better, its just money in the end

I don't know what I'd do without those 2am "master, call me" pm's. :(
T, you've been a guiding light and inspiration to a lot of people here. It's not as difficult as you think to just run the status quo and not buy anything for awhile till you get back on your feet. People will always take care of you. You're one of the good ole boys.

It's very easy to act hastily.......and regret it. Take a step back for a few days and just let the tank run. Feeding and mandatory maintenance isn't difficult. You'll feel better about your decision, whichever way you decide, after you rationalize and process all the feedback you're getting from everyone here. :grouphug:

A few months after 9/11 I also had similar thoughts. (My company had to get into some SERIOUS debt to stay in business) I also think about changing to a fresh water amazon tank every time my electric bill comes in. ;-)

But as my (very understanding) wife told me- there are very few things I spend money on for myself. The biggest expense is getting setup, if you can sell frags to help offset some of the monthly costs consider that. Or as everyone else said, downgrade. This hobby is also incredibly fulfilling...
