Dude the best fix for it is to have the person who messed it up buy you a new one. Other than that I don't know if it can be fixed.

that sucks. i don't think it can be fixed.

was it the cleaning lady? if it was i doubt she'll be able to pay for it. call the company and ask them or sell it and you'll have some money to buy a newer one

im not to certain but i believe that pc richards might have a spray for that to fill in those scratchs or you migth be able to use a eyeglass scratch removal which they sell in rite aid or D.R.but check pc richards first.i think they come with those soft felt cleaning rags.good luck

It is very unlikely that paper towels and windex caused that, unless you are using really gritty paper towels.

The blotchiness is most likely oil, I have to clean my plasma glass a couple of times to get a fingerprint off. Try to clean it again and see if the blotchiness disappears.

Its a glass screen right? There is no protector or anything?

check the manufacturer website. You might be able to send it in and get the screen fixed for a lot cheaper than buying a new one.

B
I checked Panasonic's site and didn't find anything, other than "Don't clean your screen with ammonia based cleaner":irked:

Shipping a 50" plasma for repair is not exactly cost effective nor practical; I need to find a place that does house calls.
Josh, Are you sure the outer layer is glass? Mine feels like a polymer of some sort, don't feel like glass for sure. The person claims she used paper towel but I am guessing a dirty rag was involved.

Chief, I wished that was the case but unfortunately I can't. The next best thing would be to sell one of my tanks and get a new TV :irked:

Pierce,

They might not be deep scratches. My daughter wrote on my LCD screen with a ball point pen that left ink and scratches. I thought I was F'ed. Even after cleaning it it still had scratches on it. The screen is a form of transparent polyethelene. Try using a small cotton ball and some rubbing alcohol in an inconspicuous area. That is how I got the scratches out of mine. It was either that or buy a new $3000 monitor or sell my first born ;)
Do not clean it in a circular motion. It will create swirl marks.
I hope this helps,

Kasei

Mine is definately glass and I have never scratched it with towels and windex (but I do have difficulty getting oils off of it, its blotchy for a while until I clean it).

My cats jump on the screen attacking any animals they see and I have not noticed a scratch yet.

What model is it? Have you tried searching on avsforum.com?

I have a 50PX20, check AVS, there are a lot of threads on your unit.

On a side note, who is your cable provider and what box are you using?

That site is pretty slow:(.

I use CableVision right now and a SA Explorer 8300HD tuner\recorder, had two different Directv HD boxes before but the reception in NY sucks and also the free TV stopped after they came out with the new card.

I have the same box for my DLP, but Time warner uses a different operating system wich blows the cablevision OS away. That being said, you get more HD content than I do.

Sorry about the screen :irked:

he said he bought it a while ago . paper towels and windex will scratch any plasma screen that has the polymer like screen.ive used paper towels to dry my splash guard for my orbit and it scracthed the hell out of it. it might have also been particles that adhered to the paper towel then vigorous wiping of those particles on the paper towel will scratch it. its hard to remove scratches from those type of screens. i have a 17" lcd that has the same type of soft screen. i used to work at a place that sold lcd, and plasmas. we never used paper towels(i would have gotten fired)we only used microfiber cloths and monster screen cleaning solution which is way better than windex. sorry to tell you this but i doubt there is any way possible to get rid of the scrathes other than sending it in for repair. dont use any kind of cotton as since its natural could have fibers in it stronger than others that can also scratch the screen. ONLY MICROFIBER. oh and no alcohol thats were the blotches proly came from.alcohol eats up polymer like screens but would never do that to true class screens.BUY A SPECIAL SOLUTION FOR PLASMA SCREENS. well i dont want to sound mean but next time buy some microfiber and tv cleaning solution those tvs are expensive and you have to buy the good stuff so sh!t like this doesnt happen

Pecan is right go with lcd next ime

Pierce, I think Monster Cable sells some kind of cleaner with a Microfiber Cloth,"iClean" is the name, dont know if it will get scratches out. I used to make model cars, and have used very fine rubbing compound from Tamiya to get light scratches and polish, dont know if you would want to try that on the screen. I have bothe in the house if you want to swing over.
