They couldn't have taken a chance, as if the NL took the lead in the bottom of the 8th there wouldn't have been any 9th inning for him to pitch.

As a Yankees fan I was glad to see Mo in the 8th. Leland showed class by guaranteeing the honor presented to Mo was unadulterated. Bringing Mo in to shut down a potential problem if the NL began to rally on Joe Nathan would have been a horrible way to send Mo out.

Great moments for the greatest reliever/closer ever to play the game.
