i've done it several times already.
the easy wayy if you have a room full is get a wall paper preforator, it will make tiny holes on the wall paper. Then use a steamer (wagner is fine), steam for 20-30 sec. then scrape off with a putty knife or some thing of that sort. This method works on paper and vinyl wall paper.

Only score the paper if it doesn't come off easily. The paper scoring tool if used With too much force will put teeth marks in your drywall or plaster causing you to have to skim coat the whole room. Been there done that in my younger days. Friends first purchased apartment in NYC, we tried all the above and used a scoring tool, but we were too rough and ended up wrecking the walls...whole apartment had to get skim coated. Luckily his family is in the construction biz...

Just get Diff and a bug sprayer. mix the diff with hot water and spray the wall down. Let it soak in and then just scrape it off. But it depends what kind of wall paper it is, if it is paper (uncoated) then just spray away. If it is coated you need to perforate the paper first (it is actually to just perforate anything that is on the wall).

As long as your don't get all "pitted" up, then you will not damage the wall!

take your time when you scrape it off. The worse thing is rushing, you will scrape up the gyp board under nether. it's not that hard to do, just let the chemical work or the steamer do it's job to loosen the glue.

you also don't need a very expensive steamer with bells and whistles. The wagner models will do fine.

*Check on youtube if your not sure how to do it. There are plenty of videos*

Just go over it with 1/4" Sheetrock

That is more of a pain IMO. It effects all your molding, so you gotta remove molding first, then your returns on your windows are short. And your electrical boxes are all set in, and you have to bring the outlets and stuff out. Then you need to redo all corners. Before i just put 1/4 over, i would rip it and replace it.
