Agree with 35 before you go over it with 1/4 inch just rip it down, it actually would be less work, unless its plaster. Oh and 36 you are in NJ if you rip it, the great state of NJ a couple of years ago has deciced you need a permit, lol.
It's really not that hard! I did it by myself in our old house, and to boot we had no $$ left after the purchase of the house, and move so I had to do it the hard way.lol
What's the hard way you ask? I used a fork to score the wall paper, and dosed it down with hot water & vinegar. Only damage done initially was when I used the metal scraper, but as soon as I did the first gouge I got the plastic one.
I used the warm water with vinegar to wash down the glue left behind.
So if I could do it when there was no youtube vids (some 30 yrs. ago) you can certainly do it!! Just remember to put down the tarp down, and use a plastic scraper...... When you're done you can come over, and take down the wall paper on my downstairs bathroom.
