Well, I thought I'd start a thread early just because of the old kid looking forward to Christmas condition.
After having received my retirement date from the FDNY on the 23rd of this month I will be bringing home a new addition. I have a reservation for a boxer puppy from a breeder in Ohio, Laymani Boxers... www.laymani.com
Now I know what many will say--rescue one. Before you do, understand that my last 2 dogs, a yellow lab/golden retriever/collie mutt (Sandy) and my last dog- a boxer (Bailey) were both rescues. Sandy had lived till a ripe old age of 14(as most mutts do). I had Sandy from the summer after 6th grade till a couple of years after I got back home after the ARMY, but Bailey due to health problems from malformed kidneys I had to put down at 6 1/2--she was robbed of a longer happy life and it KILLED me to lose her. She's what held me together like glue mentally after 9/11.
Now after 3 years I finally feel ok with getting a new buddy, until just recently I felt guilty even thinking of getting another as I felt like I would be trying to replace her, which we all know is not possible. Once they earn a spot in our hearts that spot's theirs forever, as well as a 24 hour workday schedule isn't a proper one to raise a puppy under. But with me being retired I will have 24/7 of his puppyhood to be there and properly train and develop a good, solid schedule for him.
So this time I decided to go to a breeder and get a puppy I know didn't come from a puppy mill and I know his pedigree and the parents history, as well as the pups exact birth date. I am going to Ohio the second weekend in March to meet them and see the setup and then in April to pick up the little guy.--The litter is due on Valentines day and will be ready to come home middle of April.
I wil post pics of him as soon as I see the litter in March then of my guy when I get him home.
Also if anyone knows any vets that specialize in boxers in the Nassau area(can't find any that state it on the web) I'd appreciate you letting me know. I have found a vet I like but if I can find a vet that will have expertise with the genetic issues that boxers are prone to it would feel good to know my pup would be in the best hands possible. Price of services is NOT A FACTOR. I will pay whatever it costs to have the best possible care for the little guy.
Thanks in advance...........Jimmy
