Apperently Virginia had a 5.8 quake. We all felt the ripple effects of it.

Actually this was a baby earthquake. When they occur very shallow, within a few miles down they radiate out like ripples but when they are bigger and deeper they are more localized over the event. Long Island area probably felt it more because of the water and sandy soil.

I felt it while in a plumbing supply a few miles from my house it was very slight. When i got home there was fire trucks down the street. My neighbor said it was bigger and all the cabinet doors where opening and closing, a gas main broke in the street.

I was on the 19th floor of my office building and the floor was shaking in a wavelike pattern for about for 15 seconds. I thought the guy sitting next to me was just shaking his leg or something. We all evacuated the building.
