Anyways, I've been thinking about adopting a puppy. I refuse to buy a dog from a store. I live near a mall and there is a puppy store there. In that store, the puppies there can be compared to putting a full grown tang inside a 10 gallon tank.
I am clueless, when it comes to what I should be looking for in a puppy in terms of health, shots, etc.
Where is a good place to go in NYC? (jersey is okay too)
Are there any requirements if I go looking to adopt?
Any tips and suggestions would be appreciated
There is a small adoptiong fee and you need to qualify. They want to make sure you are able to provide a good home. The best part is that you dont need to worry about if the dog is healthy or not. They tell you everything you need to know about the dog your looking to adopt. So to me adoption is the best way to go.

That's where my wife and I adopted our Labrador mix 7 years ago... If I remember correctly, the $75 covers the initial vaccinations and processing fees. I forgot if we paid extra for micro-shipping. Best $75 I have ever spent... I've bought frags for more that lasted less than a week :irked: G'luck!
You should research more about vaccinations on your own but I believe in puppy shots for the most part only. You should avoid tick and bug shots as We really don't live in a rural environment. With new advancements there are always excuses about new shots but ou have to be aware of the reactions some shots can have. A organic lifestyle and periodic visits to the vet seems to be the best way to keep your pet healthy.

Adoption is great its not for everyone. I wanted a certain breed,( Newfoundland) very hard to adopt i tried to rescue the second one it was to crazy.

Best place to go cause they KILL dozens of animals every day only because they dont have a home. I work at this shelter and know this for a fact so please if adopting go to your local animal shelter.
+1 My friend is a vet tech there. The stories he tells me, horrible. I was fortunate since he was there and kept an eye out for a suitable dog for us.
Wow 95% of the dogs in the shelter are pit mixes. Do you know why that is?

Manny M. He was at the 110th St. shelter when we got our Lab mix. But I think he floats between Bronx and Queens receiving centers now.
