Bleeding blue, thanks very much for the compliments, I try my best. Usually I try to have things "offset but balanced". Like the main rock is to the right and a large structure, slightly higher and larger than anything else is the main focus, and even for corals I have the formosa right near the top and slightly to the right as to not be too centered. The best tip I can give is to do what you think looks good and in the smaller tanks, I think the "fruit stand" approach works quite well while in larger tanks I like the more open atmosphere. Here is an example pic of one side of my 40g, I tried to achieve a reef crest and overhand and the other side is lower and has a few overhangs as well.

Cal, I hope you have enjoyed being part of our nano spotlight for the past week. When it was first locked, your thread had 408 hits. A growth of 200+ hits is the real fun part of this spotlight, and your last picture highlights just exactly how nice this reef setup looks. Really great job, and now we'll release the thread back into the normal flow. When we go for nano spotlight round two, return of the champions, you can bet this system will be a strong contender.

Nice Job

Cal,
Is that Montipora vietnamensis down at the base of the rock, to the right of the open brain? Green skeleton, brown polyps? I've been looking everywhere for it! One of the LFSs in Sac has it, but won't sell it to me.... I would kill for a frag, and I'm going to Trop Paradise on Tuesday.

Hi Matt not sure what it is exactly, I have it labeled as spongodes but the two look about the same too me. I really like how it is able to plate/branch for growth. Its even developing purple tips which is pretty neat. I could definitely frag a piece if you want to meet up sometime.
