  1. Filter Feeder of some sort

I agree with Manofathousandpolyps on this one. Looks exactly like some kind of tunicate (sea squirt).
  2. Got new live rock yesterday!

M: Hmmm...looks a little like the harmless microstars that I've got with the different sized legs, but not quite the same. I'd keep an eye on this guy (when you see him). He may be one of the coral eating varieties. If so, you'll probably be able to catch him in action, because they are slow...
  3. NEED HELP WITH KORLLIN REACTOR

My Korallin slows down sometimes too. Make sure that you are removing any undisolved gas, as montie suggested. This helps mine out too. Also, I've found that using just the valve on the outlet to control drip rate works much better than using the line restrictor. The restrictor initially...
  4. I have snail issues?????

I agree with Mulberry. Anything you add to take out the whelks will also feast on any beneficial snails you try to add. Better to just pick them out by hand. My experience has been that they're much more active at night. try getting them a few hours after lights out...you'll probably have...
  5. ID Please

I wouldn't worry about feeding the coral much. Getting it adequate light will take care of most of it's basic needs, and it may get enough food from what's already in your tank water. If you find that the coral is surviving and extending polyps, and you'd like to try feeding, do a search on...
  6. I have snail issues?????

Sounds kinda like a whelk. If they are, then they are carnivorous. If you can verify this, you should try to remove them. I have a small whelk population in my tank that I am monitoring carefully. So far, they aren't causing any more damage than the devistation of my stomatella population...
  7. Got new live rock yesterday!

If you want an exact ID on the snail, grab him next time you can, and take a picture of snail's aperture with the snail withdrawn. Post that picture in Dr. Ron's forum at Reefcentral.com, and Dr. will be able to identify it. Apparently trying to ID a snail by shell alone is not a great way to...
  8. ID Please

mjag, OK...I'll give this a shot, but it's hard to say what you have from your pictures. The first picture looks like you may have been trying to photograph one of the reef clams that many of us get. My experience with these has been that they survive in some tanks and not in others. Mine...
  9. Got new live rock yesterday!

Supercow, I have a lot of live rock from HA too. I'm fortunate enough to live close enough to them to go up and pick the rock myself. I've got a lot of the same stuff on my rock that you have. I've had my tank up for over a year now, so I'll try to give you some of my experiences with these...
  10. id nudibranch and crab?

My guess would be that your nudibrach is actually a flatworm. You should be able to see exposed "lungs" on a nudibrach (hence the name, meaning 'naked lung'). Other than that, I can't help ya. Sorry.
  11. What could this be?

You mean they look like potato bugs? If so, then you have isopods. Congradulations, they're good to have. Mine all got eaten by my other reef inhabitants.
  12. Possible coral and tree like thing?

I've got a bunch of these in my tank. They reproduce (if you're lucky) by budding. The best ID I've gotten is Astrangia Sp. Check Eric Borneman's book...there's a picture in there. These are ahermatipic (sp?) corals, so you must have food in the water column for them to live. Mine will take...
  13. Worm ID?

Sounds like a peanut worm. They're good to have. I've got a few in my tank. I've seen up to 3 inches of one of them. They're very light sensitive, and will "collapse" back in on themselves to retreat from any light source.
  14. Experience with E-Ballasts

I also love my e-ballast. Silent, not hot, fires on the first try every time, saves on power bills, and provides plenty of PAR for my tank (based on how things are growing, not any measurement). I think you'll enjoy the ballast.
  15. Back from 7 day trip...tank question

Hmmmm...Cozumel...Grand Cayman...Did you cruise? . I ask because I'm booked for an April western carribean cruise, and I'm really looking forward to getting into the water at those two ports. How are the reefs there doing?
