  1. urchin eggs?

  2. Crap--one of my clowns died. Too much calcium?

No...calcium will not kill a fish. And running new lights will not do it either in a single day - there was something else going on. How long had the clown been in there, and how long has your tank been running? Was she eating normally? What other inhabitants are in there? _________________...
  3. Need help with QUIET equipment

How about come closed-cell foam under the pump(s)... something like mouse pad material. I use it, works great if you get a little vibration. Those stands can act like big amplifiers for a 60Hz hummmmmmmm. _________________ cause of us recession
  4. acropora/clams under vho

Sure. Some of the sps may not color up as nice, and you may want to start with a clam like Deresa which will thive nicely under VHOs... but you can have success with them. You would want to place SPS higher in the tank... leave your softies and polyps and LPS lower down - depending on species...
  5. Garlic Schmarlic

"Stress does not cause ich Cryptocaryon irritans do." "Stress is not always a factor but it does often play a part as it makes fish more susceptible to a full blown infection IF the parasite is present." laugh..obviously. Thats exactly my point Terry, and it seems we agree. Of course...
  6. To skim or not to skim?

I wouldnt run a tank without a skimmer. Partly because I feed fairly heavily, partly because I believe it helps to oxegenate the water, and certainly because it does pull out alot of waste. I also believe 'overskimming' is overrated, as is its effect on trace element levels. Simply do a...
  7. Harlequin Shrimp

I dont believe so, but you should verify. _________________ Ferrari 637
  8. Garlic Schmarlic

Its kind of funny. I have never ever had a fish with ich... had saltwater and reef tanks for 10 years I guess. oops. probably cursed myself there. I have never bought into the dogma that says ick is in every system. I just find it hard to believe that is it so ubiquitous that you...
  9. Christmas Tree worms hard to keep?

Rob - Excellent point, which I had not considered. Yes.. the 'new' Spirobranchus worms were colocated on the same rock.. not elsewhere. In fact.. they looked to bore up from inside after clearly 'tunneling' along the porites. (they left trails like a mole. ) And it did take about a year...
  10. Does it make sense??

to some extent.. yes...though it still maintains a biofilm - and not all nooks and crannies get plugged up. Tiny fissues, sure. Live rock denitrication powers are overrated IMO in comparison to say a deep sand bed. That of course doesnt mean that LR is useless... _________________ Baking...
  11. What is your salinity???

that depends, for instance on humidity. Mix some up and check it... but you cant really use a 'recipe' to mix. _________________ Mercedes Benz Axor
  12. Christmas Tree worms hard to keep?

I have a chunk (about 5 Lbs.. a big piece) of porites that I bought about 2.5 years ago.. originally it had about 20 Spirobranchus worms on it. Very pretty. Within 3 months the porites appeared to die completely, though the worms persisted. Surprisingly - the porites came back in a small area...
  13. What is your salinity???

Reefs average about 35ppt or 1.026. Depends though... Red Sea and Persian gulf are about 40ppt. 1.026 is a good baseline to shoot for. here... read this http://www.animalnetwork.com/fish2/aqfm/1997/nov/features/1/default.asp [ February 26, 2002: Message edited by: Steve Richardson...
  14. Wrasse ID needed

Hmmm based on this: http://ichtyonb1.mnhn.fr/Summary/SpeciesSummary.cfm?genusname=Paracheilinu s&speciesname=filamentosus I dont think thats it. (Notice lateral line interupted) Perhaps wade through this to see if you find something... (browse through common name 'wrasse'...
  15. Snail Eggs' possibilities of survival

Iffy. However, where there is smoke, there is fire. Its the ones you *dont* see that have a good chance. If you have some eggs, chances are you are getting more in a safe place too... tucked in a corner... in a narrow space in the rocks. Keep your eyes peeled for *tiny* snails...
