Help!!!

I finally convinced my wife to let me set up a reef tank in the master bedroom.

My buddy was getting rid of his old setup and it's now in my bedroom.

The problem is that the whole thing is VERY noisy. I redid the overflow to a durso standpipe (a little better).

Here's my problem. The hose from the tank to the sump goes underwater in the sump making a bunch of "bubbling noises". The skimmer is a beckett modified ReefDevil that is VERY noisy. And the return pump (a Mag500 or something) vibrates very bad and makes quite a racket.

My question is this.....

Can anyone recommend any suggestions on how to "quiet things up?" I'm going to replace the skimmer, so I need suggestions on a nice, quiet skimmer. I can replace the mag, so I need suggestions on quiet return pumps. The sump is a 10 gallon aquarium, so I don't want to drill for external pump if I don't have to. I also need some suggestions on how to quiet down the hose that goes from the main tank to the sump (just some 1" flexible hosing).

Thanks much!!!

How about come closed-cell foam under the pump(s)... something like mouse pad material.

I use it, works great if you get a little vibration. Those stands can act like big amplifiers for a 60Hz hummmmmmmm.

i have a friend who solved the return pump problem with the mouse pad trick. how high is the water in the sump? does the hose just drop right in? if possible you could have it go through a filter pad and then trickle over live rock, if the sump has that kind of chamber. it would still make noise, but a whole lot less

How about just turn on the TV while you guys sleep?

Pumpwise, I find the mag already pretty quiet. But being in the bedroom, you will probably never achieve 90% quietness you hope to get. Anything quieter than mag, may be too big your for application.....But still makes a hummming noise.

I tried all the suggestions on this board and then some for my old B/R tank. When I set up my new B/R tank I solved all of the noise problems, I located the sump and all the equipment in an adjoining B/R closet

I had the same problems. The initial noise was solved by the Durso, but then the return line kept "flushing" and the noise was awful. I read yesterday that having a T connection on the line from the overflow will quiet it down if it is half under water and half out of it. I'm gonna try that tonight.
I solved the pump vibration by putting a piece of foam under it.

Have the return pipe end above water level, & have the water drop onto a flat piece of acrylic sheet, inclined at about 45 degrees- the water will run quietly down the inclined sheet into the sump. If the water running down the pipe itself is noisy, see if you can incline the pipe a bit as well.
