I removed all my snails and crabs as I've been trying to catch a #$%^ mantis shrimp for the past few months and they kept going after the food in the traps.
I've had no problems whatsoever. I have fewer snails to feed on the algae on the glass but that just means I have to scrape every 3...
i would cynically submit that if a co the size of Nike can't control what conditions its shoes are made under there's very little effect our LFS will have upon collection practices by 3rd world folks in far flung islands in the indo pacific.
don't want to discourage you from improving the...
NO ANEMONE FOR YOU!!! ... just kidding. I have both in my 150g with similar parameters. Added my anemone after 1 year or so and its doing great. It just started moving around. Guess you just have to be willing to risk it. Mine walked about 1/4 the way across the tank and is now underneath...
Thanks for the article Righty - that's great. Fenner on Wetwebmedia.com seems to imply that the fatheads won't school however. I really like schooling behavior - does anyone have anthias that don't school?
Thanks again.
Jon
I was thinking about replacing my green chromis with Lyretail Antias - a male and a female. are they really as tough to keep as teh cautionary words in Bob Fenner's book suggest? Doesnt say impossibe but says tough. I've kept a lot of tough things before and my 150g reef tank is free of nasty...
13" could be a problem - but the only other antidote to mantis i've heard of (besides my traps that couldn't catch a cold) is a zebra morray eel. I'd rather not have an eel in my tank. I have no crustaceans in my tank now anyways as they've all been removed becase they were taking the bait...
That's fantastic. I'll look to buy one soon. I had read they're not reef safe however - are there any problems with certian types of corals? Also heard they can be aggressive. Any experiences?
Thanks for all the feedback. Sounds like they're pretty good citizens, which is impt. I would return the moray to the LFS after the mantis was caught.
Interesting though, has no one heard of or experienced using a zebra as a mantis?
The most knowlegeable LFS owner I've run into in some time told me that one of the Zebra Morrays natural food sources is mantis shrimp. I asked whether they weren't too slow to catch a mantis, he said they'll corner the mantis in its hole and wait it out. Said I should get a little baby one like...
Prob right ... has anyone else had similar experienc with thier silicone? Is it usual to chip like that or did i get a lemon of a tank? Its about 5 years old.
