Little chips around the edges of the silicone, almost looks like its drying out. I no longer clean it with a paper towel b/c i'm worried about furthering damage. And it looks like algae is starting to grow underneath the silicone - not quite to the crack between the glass but about 1/3 to 1/2 way there.

Do you think this is a problem? Is there anything I can do to help it short of breaking down the reef (uuuggggh) and replacing the tank - a pain since its built in.

Any suggestions or thoughts would be great.

I think there is only two ways to resolve this. One you can tear down and replace the seals on your time, or you can wait till the seals give way and places everything on your floor, and then replace the seals.

has the tank been empty for a long time? It is common for silicone to become dry and crusty if open to the elements for a long duration.

This really isn't that big of a problem.
AGA puts silicon on the inside and outside of the joints and between the joints.
It should hold water, it shouldn't leek, it should be OK.

Tank has really never been empty, except for breif periods between breakdown and setting back up. has just happened gradually.

I have a 100g tank, that I got used 8 years ago, it is probably 9-10 years old, I have had my reef going in it for a year and a half, the silicone in it is completly deterierated in some spots, it has water blisters all over it too. some spot are peeling up, it is a lot stronger that you might think!

I not sure how much long it wil last, but it has never sprung a leak....Im scared of it though, and am tring to save for a new setup!
