  1. hippo tang

I agree with Matt. Add brine shrimp, but soak them in vita-chem or some other suppliment for 30 minutes. I feed my hippo tang frozen cubes of Ocean Nutrition, along with Seaweed Selects, blanched broccolli. Give them all a try. HTH
  2. CPR BakPak Pre-Skimmer

Chris, I have a prefilter and it works great. The surface is clear of all oily scum. I agree that it fits well with a Rio, but it is a pain with the Maxijet. A great investment. IMHO.
  3. PBS Newhour segment on coral reefs

I am glad that a number of people viewed this post, but I was surprised to only see one reply. I enjoyed the web site, but was glad I have broadband. I am not sure of the aquarium behind her. ReefMon, glad you enjoyed.
  4. PBS Newhour segment on coral reefs

I was watching the Newhour last night and they had a segment on coral reefs. It was very good and I have pasted a link. Enjoy. http://www.pbs.org/newshour/science/cor ... index.html
  5. least aggressive tang?

Purple tangs have a rep for being pretty mean, but I do think it depends on the individual fish. My purple tang is an absolute wimp. When I first got him, he was beaten up by all of his tankmates. I had to get him his own seperate tank. Humm...maybe that was his plan all along. I added a...
  6. Dead LR

reefnutz, Good point. I did ask about copper way back and the definite answer was no, so I am not worried about that. Thanks.
  7. Dead LR

Bud - I took your advice and I am glad that I did. When I put the dead LR in a standy tank, I could not believe all of the junk that came off them. And that was after I rinsed all of the LR!! Anyway, I am going to let them sit for a couple of weeks to cycle. Thanks. JohnD
  8. Dead LR

Hi, I bought some LR from a hobbyist whose tank crashed about 6 months ago. I wasn't sure what caused the crash, so I rinsed off the LR and put it on some newspaper in my basement. It has been bone dry for at least 5 months. I was hoping that this extended drying period would kill anything...
  9. Ordering corals/shipping in the North east this time of year

Rob, I placed an order from etropicals.com in the winter and was very happy. They packed the order very well and had a couple of heat packs. I paid for next day via Fedex and had the order sent to the local facility. I got to the Fedex place just after they opened at 9:00 AM for customer...
  10. moving 75 gallon from one room to the other

I have to second LauraD's comments about the water temperature. Many years ago when I moved my 55, I had a small hippo/regal tang. I thought I could do the move quickly, so I never worried about the water temperature. By the time I was done, the temp had dropped big time. The next day the...
  11. Good tang advice from the LFS!

Especially because of the price difference between a sohal and a yellow tang. The one guy is sure a self-assured dude. :D
  12. Ethics of keeping the blue ring octopus.

I went to a GrimReefers board a number of months ago and followed links about the blue-ring. One site I went to was by a marine biologist reporting on his research in the western Pacific. In one of his collection buckets was one of those blue-rings. It must have climbed into one of the...
  13. LIVE Deliveries....

Dan's suggestion is right on. I've done that with a number of shipments. I have used etropicals and IPSF and am happy with both. The last time I ordered, etropicals had free shipping when the total purchase was over a certain dollar amount. (If I remember right it was either $60 or $75.)
  14. Ebo-jaeger heater

I emailed Jason at Premium Aquatics and he gave he his take on Ebo-jagers, Finnex and some other brands. I have been running Ebo-jagers for years, but I decided to try a Finnex titanium heater. Will keep you posted. Regards, JohnD
  15. Ebo-jaeger heater

reefnutz, Thanks for your opinion. I think you are right. Have you tired one of those finnex titanium heaters?
