What's a good ballast to use with HQI DE? Do IceCap, LN or PFO make a dual ballast to run 2-250w lamps?

I decided to go with dual 250w MH with pc actinic suppliments for a 92 corner. I want the versitility to be able run either HQI DE or mogul lamps, so so either IceCap 250w HQI or LN ballast will do the trick. Once you start adding up the costs of ballasts, sockets, reflectors and bulbs things...

His only comments were that CSL is having the same issues with their Velocity pumps as Dolphin was having. These pumps were not designed for marine applications, hence the problems.

Well, I got an answer to my own question by calling Dolphin directly. Yes the SS series of pumps are the same as the Velocity and yes Velocity is still selling the same pump that dolphin discontinued. The DP line of pumps is a different design, impeller shaft vs ball.

I'm looking for some new pumps and have been going through past threads. Some people have stated that the Dolphin Silent Sea pumps are the same as the CSL velocity pumps (same manufacturer, SS1200 = T4). Dolphin has discontinued the entire series of SilentSea pumps due to quality issues, so...

The Mag 7 is not a pressure rated pump, take a look a championlighting web sight, they have a side by side comparison of a lot of pumps and shows which are pressure rated. This still has me confused as to which pump to get to run a skimmer.

Pressure rated pumps can handle back pressure and non-pressure rated ones are for direct flow, so which one is best suited for running a protein skimmer? I see many skimmer manufacturers that recommend non-pressure rated pumps, does it make any difference. Can anyone explain how the 2 types...

Does anyone split the output from a single pump to power their skimmer and also return the water to the tank from the sump?

I'm looking for a skimmer to run on a 92 gal tank that is quiet and not a big hassle to operate. One that can be plumbed into the side of the sump or just stand next to it would be ideal. Thanks.

I have red slime algae that grows only on the Halmeda plants...why's that? Anyone have any ideas?

I would definitely change the pump to a Maxi Jet 1200. Not only will it improve the efficiency of the skimmer, it's a lot quieter.

I had that problem with Hagen powerheads, but not with Maxi Jets. I thought that the powerhead was sucking up tiny bubbles from the skimmer, and that they were collecting inside, and then blowing out once it got to large. It's weird that it only happens with 1 out of 3.

And then there are the urchin spines...do you believe this? Next he'll be selling hermit crab shells as prehistoric fossils...a very rare find!
