Dolphin SilentSea = CSL Velocity pump?

I'm looking for some new pumps and have been going through past threads. Some people have stated that the Dolphin Silent Sea pumps are the same as the CSL velocity pumps (same manufacturer, SS1200 = T4). Dolphin has discontinued the entire series of SilentSea pumps due to quality issues, so does this mean that the same pump is still being sold under the Velocity name? Also, how is the DP line of Dolphin pumps different from the SS that have been discontinued? Thanks.

Well, I got an answer to my own question by calling Dolphin directly. Yes the SS series of pumps are the same as the Velocity and yes Velocity is still selling the same pump that dolphin discontinued. The DP line of pumps is a different design, impeller shaft vs ball.

I received a pump in trade for a skimmer that I believed was a dolphin ss 1200. Based on your above statement, I now believe its a CSL velocity T4 due to the impellar resembling a floating ball and socket arrangement with closed fins.

Did the dolphin rep you spoke with have anything negative to say about the csl version or why they did not discontinue?

I really hesitated to make the trade based on all the negative posts about the Dolphin SilentSeas but he sweetened the deal with some extras so I went for it.

I have yet to test or install the pump I have.

His only comments were that CSL is having the same issues with their Velocity pumps as Dolphin was having. These pumps were not designed for marine applications, hence the problems.
