  1. Which Sea-Swirl for 55G?

Def. go with at least a 3/4. I had the 1/2 and I loved it so much I wished I had the 3/4 and a larger pump.
  2. Mentor

No, not for good. I am just tired. Between goiing to school full time and starting a new job on Monday, I don't feel like I can battle the up and downs of my tank right now. I finally thought that I had the whole hair algae kicked and it is now back and I don't have the energy. I thought having...
  3. Mentor

Disregard previous post. I have decided to break down the system.
  4. Mentor

Would anyone with alot of experience, good or bad, be willing to help someone such as myself with my tank. Someone that I could talk too or e-mail directly because I have had it with my tank. I love it but hate it. I just started to rip my tank apart and I need help. For some reason my refugium...
  5. bio Wheels

Vitz wrote Great Advice. I never thought of it like that. I come from a Greek family we think everyone is skinny, overfeeding is natural 8O
  6. RO/DI

If you can do it now you might as well. You will eventually say like everyone else here has said before, that you want to keep corals. For smaller tanks you could probably get away with a tap water purifier but If plan on a lager tank ro/di unit is the way to go. Your fish and eventually your...

Is this not also accomplished with a sump/refugium? I understand that with larger tanks there is less chance of overfeeding or error but lets take my 50 gallon for example. I have 50+lbs of lr, 3-4inch sandbed in the main tank, 30gal ref/sump with 6inch sb w macros and a cpr skimmer to help...
  8. New light bulb

The bulb was about 11mnths old. I am guessing maybe it has something to do with the color spectrum but it really is a guess. I cut back feedings to the tank to every other day until I figure out what happened. I also plan on doing another water change this weekend. I had the brown diatom problem...
  9. Sand bed clumping

It could mean that there is an imbalance in ca/alk or it could be bacterial. How often do you do water changes? Maybe you do not have enough flow to that area. Either way you could just break it up or leave it.
  10. New light bulb

I just changed from a 400w 65k iwaski to a 400w 20k Radium over my 50. I did a 10% RO/DI water change using new cartridges before I changed the bulb. All tests read normal but I am getting spot green hair algae. I plucked out some macro from the refuge last night but that is the only thing I...
  11. Hang-On Refugium

I had the smallest version of the CPR refugium. It did the job well but I went for a bigger homemade version for my current tank. I do plan on using the CPR ref for when my wife sets up a sea horse tank.
  12. Opinions

Based on the info you provided of your existing setup (umm that would be none right?) Reefland, I guessing by this comment you are looking for the size of the tank. It is a 50gal with monthly 20gal water change (no additives except occasional alk or cal). If you would like additional info...
  13. Opinions

I have known for sometime that I would not have a job so I have been preparing my self and my tank for this. I would like to buy things I would need to keep it going like food additives any type of replacements for my current equipment. You are right about backing off on any major upgrades but I...
  14. Opinions

I am out of my job come tomorrow but I have budgeted myself for the next couple of months for the tank. I will be ordering a new 400w bulb and replacement cartridges for the ro/di. Including these items I have $600 to spend at the moment. I have plenty of food and new test kits. I was thinking...
  15. Controversy: Hands in tank

I agree with 2poor2reef. My gloves though are big and bulky and are hard to work with. What kind of gloves do most people use?
