Very nice find Jon. So put it back at roughly the same height it was but at a slight angle where can observe & appreciate it & maybe it will show itself a little more. :starfish:

I got this piece from greenwich aquaria, this is from when it first went in the tank.

I'll ask Jason if he remembers where it came from. I guess they are common, just not in our tanks. there was no sign of it when I got the coral, the base was pretty clean.

I had some of those colonial tunicates show up in the midsection of my tank inside the rock work, same exact pattern. It was viewable from the right side of the tank but wasn't getting direct light but good flow. Mine was orange, purple, and light blue. One of the coolest things I have ever seen in my tanks..... and then my turbos ( I'm pretty sure since they were the last ones seen with them alive) ate them all :tired:.

I'm not even sure how to frag them without killing them. and I can't break the rock because they are under a colonies base.

I'll give it a try guys, who knows how fast they grow? I've had that coral for about 6 months, so you could say that's at least 5 months growth.

close ups

I got a couple shots yesterday. these are in the tank, you can see them just starting to grow out from under the rock. They are very small, each one is maybe a 1/4" in diameter so shooting them was a challenge. I did not have time to grab a tripod so I was holding the camera and with the macro extension on the shutter speed dropped to 1/10 of a sec. thus the blurry pics.

these little guys are so fragile, after looking at them again I doubt if I could get a piece off that would live.
