I'm a HUGE advocate of regular and frequent water changes. Actually, that's all I do. I don't dose anything, just water changes every single week. One week 10% next week 20%. Replaces all my trace elements and keeps my Ca up too.

BUT THAT'S JUST ME! Others will have their tried and true methods. I believe you can't go wrong with the water changes you've mentioned.

FYI, NSW = 1.0265
I try to keep mine about there. Fish are fine with a bit lower. I find that my corals open and color up better with SG = ~ 1.0265. JMO of course.

Relax. Give it some time. By you messing with it you're not helping matters it's a natural bloom let it go through it's cycle.

Brown algae is not the only thing missing from this 10g. Several nitrate/phosphate producing fish including 2 tangs are missing. Are there inverts in the tank? Did a anemone get shredded by a powerhead in this tank? Are you feeding this tank? How much light is on the tank? Shall I continue?

You cannot compare the algae growth on two tanks...especially when neither has fully matured. Just show some patience and things will improve. I've seen you post the "patience" credo to many other members since you've joined...now it's time to exhibit some yourself.

in the summer I keep my tank at 80-82 in the winter I let drop to 76 before the heater comes on. the temperature is not going to play a huge part in the cycle.
if you can it to 79-78 that would be better for the critters in the tank.

this is the 29 were talking about?
brown algae is no big deal that will go away. just be glad your not fighting turf or hair algae, then I would not be standing under your windows lol ;)

like Dean said let the tank run it's course, have a beer and chill out :D
I'm still working in my shop, otherwise I'd have a beer too :P

well we better get you ready for the cyno cycle. if you don't like a little brown algae let me tell you the cyno is going to make you want to throw a brick at the tank, lol. jk.

but seriously the cyno will come someday and it is red, ugly, and nasty looking. it covers your rocks and it seems like it will never go away. but I will tell you a secret, chemi-clean is your friend. I used it to fight a horrible case of cyno bacteria after I had syphoned it out of the tank over and over again, and gone through carbon, and buckets of salt. a few grams of chemi-clean kicked that bacteria's a$$ for good.

hmmmm jhale chemi clean. what exactly is it and how much of it do u use. and can it be used on the brown algae i have.... im using rodi water to. so im pretty confident that its pure as hell. well i hope. i dont have tester thingy to test the water but maybe someone does around where i live.

without a TDS meter is hard to know what your ro/di output is. depending on how old the filters are they might not be working as well as they should be.

chemi-clean will not keep the cyno away forever, but it will make it disappear for a long while. by then your tank should be established and it should not come back in any large amounts. I had a small bloom, maybe due to Po4, but I used phosban to knock out the Po4 and the cyno died away.
