wanna know a sick removal tool you can buy from a convenience store? removes hair algae 100%, cyano, corals you don't want etc. It's behind the counter at the checkout take a guess.
Blue jet flame lighter. Been using them in my picos since 2002 I got the idea trying to figure out a way to shoot bad patches through the sides of my tank with a gamma green laser. The ones from dj lights, and I believe I was able to bleach green hair algae patches with intense focused radiation if that ever takes off you guys remember I pitched it first here lol
but the laser lighter is the practical alternative. I have removed hair algae at the base of corals, or my live rock, by draining the tank and zapping the area with a blast. the denuded area will simply recalcify in the future, just blast clean off the area with a paper towel if you can reach it.
To deflect heat from sensitive corals, fold deflector paddles out of tin foil they will allow you to shoot the base of the coral without hitting the upper flesh. this idea works so well because all the surrounding matter is sopping wet and a poor conductor of focused heat.
Im still working on focused laser eradication of algae, Im going to call it the algaepen and it should be able to remove anything that is phototically bleachable through the sides of your tank glass even when it's full. as an end goal...ill put of a vid first if it ever works in the meantime do a lighter for total xenia removal. if it works in pico reefs it should darn sure work in the dilution of a larger tank.
