Man, guys. Way to instill fear AFTER I asked the initial question & subsequently purchased a boatload of plumbing supplies & sold my skimmer.

I have no idea how old the tank is but I'm guessing it's pretty old. The top brace is about 10" wide & is made of glass. The oak trim is a nice beveled trim, not the "cheap" looking oak on the newer tanks.

I bought it second hand. This is why I asked the question about the label on the bottom. Sheesh.

OK, so I must have mentioned that on another thread. I just found out that my tank is actually a 40 long, not a 55.

Does anyone know who made 40L oak trimmed tanks with a 10" center brace? A search turned up Oceanic but every reference to the 10" glass center brace was to tanks 75 gallons or larger.

Anyone have contact info so I can make the call?

Give it your best shot !!!

if there's a issue, you have a great arguement for a newer, bigger tank.

do it before sat and sun and you can still make the HOUSE OF FINS 50 th anniv sale.

"but hey i'm a newbe what do i know????????"

I just sent an email to Oceanic as I'm sure that my tank was made by them based on the glass center brace & beveled oak trim. Let's see what the horse has to say.

if you're going to use a dremmel, you can do it pretty easily. check RC. there's a couple of threads there where people did it.

and the polarized glasses trick does work. ever look at a back window of another car while driving when you're wearing polarized glasses? you see some kind of pattern. most likely it's a bunch of dots/blobs in a grid pattern.

Seriously do not do this while you have fish in it, unless you video tape it. You may also want to throw a lit M80 into the tank while you are drilling it, just for effect. Either way I would expect the same result. Drilling a tank full is just a dangerous idea.

That being said Jim and Russ have drilled many tanks and I would listen to their advise on this subject. I on the other hand just want to see a video of a tank exploding with fish in it. :)

Thank you all for voting. Special thanks to Dr. Gonzo for helping me drill the tank (squirting water while filming, WOW!) & House for all the help with my ex Durso setup.

It was a success!!

Tank is now reef friendly, sumped & LOUD!

Thanks again
