aiming for a pair of Genicanthus personatus 8O

Oh yeah, good luck with those. ;)

Even rhomboids are like perculas next to those fish!

I love that male personatus, tho...you know I'm a genicanthus freak. :D

Len I am jealous, but I am in the planning stage of my masterpiece and will post tons of pics when I officially decide on the tank and make the purchase!

Everything looks so great, from the black corners, cherry stand, and plumbing. You really gave me some great ideas for my tank, Thank you!

Now I cant decide on the plumbing senario. I was going with something simple: Tunze stream pumps push so much water, but I like the idea of the rotational pumps.

How do you feel that mechanism works? Are they built solid? 1-10 scale.

On another note:

Genicanthus personatus are deep water fish, I dont know how they will be under Metal Halides... and as you might know any fish from deep waters are difficult to acclimate. Lastly they are expensive and rare!

Waz, I'll try to take some photos this weekend. Shoot me a PM if I forget, but it is on my to-do list anyhow ;) I didn't build it (I have no woodworking skills). It was built by BRI aquatics in FL. Beautiful construction.

bello,
Thanks for the kind words, and I'm glad I gave you some ideas. That's why I'm sharing :) The Ocean Motions so far has been absolutely perfect. If the motor should break, you can just replace it instead of the whole unit (the thing disassembles easily). So far, I'd rate it very high, maybe a 8 (not perfect only because the motor is exposed and it's not dead quiet). I plan on using propellar pumps, but the rotating return will change the flow patterns of my tank.

I know Genicanthus personatus are deepwater and very pricey :P I'm a sucker for rare fish (the other fish on my list are mostly deepwater too, and not exactly cheap ;)) I've found very few deepwater fish that couldn't acclimate to halides. Acclimating is definitely difficult when it comes to proper collection, so I only buy from sources I trust. FWIW, I'm still leary plopping down big bucks for stuff like personatus angels and gemmatum tangs. The earlei was a pretty big decision for me too.

Yea with Tunze powerheads I wont be able to have any rotating goodness - but thanks for telling me its loud, this tank im crafting is for my bedroom! Its gotta be super quiet if thats possible!!!

Im a sucker for rare fish too!! I have a fish only tank at the moment;

Conspic Angel
Mappa puffer
Vlamingi Tang
Sargassum triggerfish

The new reef tank im looking at is the new oceanic half circle. I think due to my limited success with reef tanks, I will keep it simpler with soft corals, bubble tip anemones, and polyps and such. The rotating water would of been cool...

Hehe. For clarification, it's not loud. Just a mild mechanical hum that you can't hear over a skimmer. But in a bedroom, it can get annoying.

Hey Len, great job on the tank. Can you post the url for Twilight Aquatics? Google can't seem to find them for me. Thanks!

Thanks guys. I'll try to shoot more photos of the tank as it is now. I've progressed quite a bit :) Yes Waz, I'll try to get some stand and canopy photos :P

Brian @ Twilight is outstanding. He doesn't sell affordable fish, but the fish he does sell is of extremely high quality, and for their rarity, priced extremely "affordably" (for lack of better word).

The minute I opened up my shipment, I knew I got healthy fish. They were active and swimming within the first 10 minutes (and fairy wrasses are notoriously bad shippers). I put them in my tank and they immediately went about investigating their new home, never hiding, never scared of my presence. When I fed a few minutes after introduction, they fed like pigs. That's quality 8)

Yep, I am admittedly going nutty on my fish purchases ;) As crazy as this sounds, his prices are incredibly "cheap" for such rare fish. Virtually nothing is documented about the C.earlei, and I'm enjoying learning about this fish and sharing my experiences.
