Alright this skimmer is making me bonkers. I bought an Aqua C Remora Pro with drain fitting and Mag pump over a month ago for my 75 gallon tank because everyone raves about these skimmers. Ever since I bought this thing it's been producing an excess of liquid. I can't even call it skimate at this point. Here's what has happened.

So recently I moved my tank, but two weeks before the break down of the tank, I received the skimmer, so that I could break it in before the move. I set the collection cup at the highest point and it instantly starting producing foam, although it looked like light tea. I thought great at that moment. But half a day later I relized that maybe this wasn't so great since it was filling the whole cup in that time frame. So I'd empty it out every 12 hours thinking that the my previous skimmer really sucked that much and that this Remora was just catching up at the time.

I let it run this way for a week and half, until I contacted Aqua C. They told me at the time that it was just the break in period, that the skimmer was doing what my previous skimmer couldn't do, or that my salinity was to high at 1.025 and told me to give it a little more time to break in and lower my salinity. So I did as told and lowered the salinity to 1.023 and kept with the break in period.

About a week later, I moved the tank to a holding bin until I could take the time to rebuild the tank after my move into my new home. The live rock, corals, and fish lived in the holding bin for about two weeks and all through that time it kept filling the whole collection cup in half a day.

Well last weekend I finally got around to rebuilding the tank. I filled the tank with all new saltwater and about 15 gallons of old water, 40 pounds of new sea floor argonite, and 20 pound bag of Arag-Alive. The old live rock, corals, and fish went back into the tank too. I connected the skimmer but didn't put the collection cup in for a day, since I heard that new saltwater would make skimmers foam like crazy.

By Sunday morning, the water cleared from putting in the new agronite, so I thought it would be alright if I put the collection cup in place that evening. I put the drain hose into a quart size bottle and in about 3 hours it had filled up and spilled over, making a mess on the carpet.

So I put the drain hose to feed back into the sump, thinking that the water was just to new and let it run this way for a week.

Well, this evening I put the drain hose into a five gallon bucket at around 6:00. It's now 9:45, and I kid you not, the bucket is almost 3/4 full.

So that's what's driving me nuts. Before any one asks here's a couple more details I'm sure are coming to mind.

- I don't use any additives what so ever.

- I use Oceanic Salt.

- I feed Ocean Nutrition Prime Reef and Formula Two lightly.

- The saltwater was made with RO water.

- The salinity is now lower than 1.022 because I keep replinshing the water the skimmer drains out.

- The fish and corals are doing fine so far and they seen happy.

So ask away and tell me what I can do to stop the over production of foam. Your advice will greatly be appreciated.

Haven't tried that, but that screw is to clean the injector, which I've done by the way. I try it anyways. I'll try almost anything.

If the mag is hooked to the skimmer with a short lenght of tube you could restrict it slightly with a clamp, or a longer tube might cut the flow rate some.

It's already on a longer tube. About 12 inches or so. I'm using it in my sump and accomadate the extra length.

Try crimping the hose a little. If this works then you can put a valve in line and adjust it.

Alright I can try that, but why would Aqua C have the Mag as an upgrade if you'll get 3-4 gallons of water every 3 to 4 hours, which whould just drain your aquarium?

Not sure I understand the question. Your skimmer could just be a lemon. It did take mine about 10 days to start skimming. The skimmate is sometimes more wet than I like. So many dif. things affect skimmers, bioload, water chem., salinty, etc... I would contact Kim at Aqua C again. I have heard they stand behind their products. Andy

Sounds like it is pushing too much water. You can buy a clamp 'valve' at the lfs for a few bucks to adjust the flow, or you can plumb some kind of gate or ball valve.

Have you ever heard of a Mag 3 being so over powered for Remora Pro that it pushes about a gallon an hour of liquid? Is this a problem you've heard of before? Does this problem not happen with the people that run the standard Rio 1400?

I'm running a Mag 5 on my Remora Pro that I am running on my 40g office tank without any issues. I don't have the drain thingy and have it set fairly dry and empty the cup once a week.

No idea what could be causing yours to foam so much but I don't think the Mag 3 is too powerful.

My Remora Pro with Mag 3 should arrive on monday, I will let you know how it works. The Mag 3 should not have too much flow as stated above some people use mag 5's or even 7's so there must be another problem.]

That's what I thought about the Mag 3. I took the the skimmer out of the sump this morning and cleaned what I could. The only thing you can clean though is injector, rinse out the housing, and clean the pump. It's been running for about and hour. Hopefully this will magically do something, I hope! Any other suggestions?

If it is pumping so much water, I wonder if the spray injector might be defective?

Well from reading on the skimmer the flow through the spray nozzle should only be about 110 gallons an hour as opposed to the 350 gal for the mag 3 wide open. If you are getting a lot more flow then the injector nozzle might be defective. Mike

Ok I set up my Remora Pro with Mag 3 last night and it seems to work as advertised I am getting a rather dry foam. Not sure what could be wrong with yours either something in your water or defective skimmer.
