Here's some pics of the "birth" of my 375 gallon baby. This project is going on right now and I can't contain my excitement!! If anybody is looking for design help (CAD/3D modeling) on their fishrooms or stands, check with ltspd (Paul) on the board here. His services were key in helping me visualize this whole thing.

Here's mine, there's been some major changes though. I had 2 crashes, and the reef itself has since been torn down, and re-done, but the wall structure was not touched

And here's one with a behind scenes picture, the grow-out tank and refugium have been removed since
http://www.geocities.com/petsburgh/yard/9204/210galupdate.html

Hey Derek, I'd recognize that tank anywhere. :) Not sure if you remember me or not, but we met at Tropicorium about 2 years ago along w/ Patrick, Keith Clark, and Todd Crail. What happened to that huge leather you had in tthe tank that had those clowns hosting in it?

Shane
Hey Shane, of course I remember you. I was wondering if you'd remember me.
well The tank went through 2 major crashes. First, a pipe let go, and the fresh water top up screwed the salinity way up, lost a bunch of stuff.
Then I had a power outage in the middle of the night,m when it came back on, it through both breakers to the tank, so it was without electricity from about 2 in the morning till 5:30 at night (didn't check it when i got up in the morning as it's never happened before..or since)
I lost everything, except for a few polyps, one of keith's tank-raised bangaii's, a chromi, and a sailfin tang.
I left the tank sitting for about a year, doing nothing, not feeding, not cleaning the glass, nothing. Those 3 fish still lived, I didn't even know they were in there for about 4 months after the last crash.
I tore it all down, cleaned the rocks, through out the sand, cleaned it all up, streamlined and now it's running great. I miss those clowns though, my first fish, and my first coral was that leather.

Do you ever talk to Keith or Todd any more? keith got out of it, but I don't know if he got back in again.

Yep, I still see Todd. We're getting together tomorrow to do some volunteer work @ the local nature/wildlife preserve. :) He's also gotten out of it as he became allergic to the coral terpenes and whatnot in the tank. He's now into native fish/plants. Go figure. ;)

Hi Everyone,

Well I called Tenecor just in time. They are making the 6 holes(3 on each side of the trapaziod center overflow) in the back 1 1/2" bulk heads not 1" like at first.

The trapaziod overflow will have 2- 1" drains and 2- 3/4" Returns, I should be able to push about 1600g per hour though the overflow or 5.2x.

I will be using 3- ampmaster 3000's on the tank(300g)

1 mag24 on the MR-3 skimmer, A maxijet 1200 on the reactor CR-6

one on the return of the system with only about 4' of head.

one closed loop on eack side(Intake on 1 side and 2 outlets(with a motorized ball value) on the other side for a criss crossing double closed loops. 15x per hour

I will have about 5 ports hidden behind and under the LR on each outlet for maximum flow with minimum velocity.

I should be push around 7000g per hour max in the whole system( I might throttle that down a little, LOL)

Starting to re-do my basement wall this weekend. tank is coming Feb 12th

Very nice Steve!! What kind of wood is that on your walls? It looks like the stuff I would see in a sauna room.

Hi Mike,

It is pine tongue and groove and the room where I took the pic(where the tank will be shown is cedar tongue and groove.

I just finish remodeling the basement about a year ago and here I am tearing up a wall.

I just went out and got a 96x30 sheet of oak plywood for the top. I forgot im building a tank stand not a bomb shelter. I'll bet I could put 10x the weight on this stand once im done.

I'll post a few more pics Sunday when I finish the stand

I have to make a shelf for the 4-400w MH's. I dont have enough room to use a pulley system, like ive seen people to, so Im going to get a swivel rod(from where I don't know yet), attached the 7ft shelf to it and Ill be able to swing it out of the way for cleaning.

Steve,

Sounds like we're going to have very similar setups..My stand too (a few posts above) was built as strong as a brick shi% house. 6x6's for legs.

I LOVE your idea about a light swing...I have a similar problem too...Mines' a dropped ceiling and I was going to do the pulley thing but it would only pulley about 4 inches, so you're idea sounds awesome!! Please, please post pics of it when you're done. I'm about 2 weeks away from needing lighting on mine.

I bought 8 feet of that metal shelving, like for garages or closets. Could I use that on this swivel idea? If it swivels, what supports the weight on the opposite side of the hinge?

Thanks a ton!

Hi Mike,

Well I know iv'e seen them, They are a pole(i will need one with a 10 to 12 inch drop. Then a 90 Degree bend. I will attahced it to my Floor Joist(Ceiling for the basement, LOL).

It might even work with Rigid pipe(just have to figure out the details). I have the design in my head, now I just have to get it out of there, LOL.

I assume it should be able to support it self(should only weigh about 20 Lbs at the most), but ill put like a 2x4 coming down and put a gate latch on that end. It should be able to support itself when I swing it out of the way(I hope)

I will not have the lights and reflector for a few weeks myself.

Hi Jeff,

Electrician yes, Carpenter just an amateur. I have remodel my whole house, just takes me awhile.

I got on a roll today and just finished it :)

I think I went a little overboard, but I guess I'll never had to worry about it breaking.

You can see the 2x6 frame and legs, but there is also a 2x4 perpendicular*(sp) to the 2x6s. and 6 - 2x6's going crossed underneath the oak plywood.I did remember to make a 6"x20" space in the back middle for the trapaziod overflow. I will cut the plywood once the tank is here.

The bottom of the stand is actually about a 1/2" off level(basement), but the top is right on.

Looks like your making awesome progress. Keep us posted.

Here is a pic of my in-wall setup:

The tank is a custom Oceanic 155gal (60x25x25). It was installed in April '02, all of the rock and some of the corals were moved from my 120 which had been up for a couple of years.

I have some more pics on my page:
