Hi Everyone,

I had to sell my 150g reef in July 2001. But i'm looking to start off again and this time up-stairs in-wall. I will be going with a 240g or 300g tank. I really want the 300 acrylic 96 length x 30 width x 24 high. (standard 300g is 96x24x30). I think 30" high is just too much. 24" seems ideal to me. My 150g was 28" and that was too deep and 18" back was too narrow.

Does anyone have some good pictures of an in-wall set-up??

I will be using my smallest room as the back drop (still tring to convince the wife). I will also be reinforcing the floor. I will probably put in 4 more 2x10. (I should be able to park a car on that floor then, hehe).

Thanks for any help

Steve

Here is mine! The pic was taken when just starting. Its 10 months old now and slowly growing. Click my site button for construction pics. For your floor, I would consider using engeneered I Beams for the floor. They are very strong.

In most cases the people that have tanks that size installed have a room set aside as a pump room. If not, I have to cram a lot of plumbing and equipment under the tank...but I still require them to have a remote location to house the chiller, main return pump, UV, and RO system. Maintaining them is done once a week, with major maintenence done quarterly.

Scott that is stunning do they fancy sponsering me in the uk? one can only dream! But that would look nice around my 11ft'r.
Jeff i must also quote my friend!.....STUNNING.....i wish i had a room behind my tank for all the gear? It would certainly cut down on condensation and i would certainly have more room. scott have you seen the cabinet and hood around my tank
....conti board perhaps you dont have it over there? its basically vaneered chip board mahogany finish.

Garry...

We do tanks worldwide, but none with live reefs. Our clients seem to perfer the rubber reefs. Unfortunate.

Hi Again,

Jeff, simply awesome. Scott your pic is stunning.

Jeff,

I do have a few more questions?

How heavy is the tank empty?
How much did this whole set-up cost before the LR? I'm guessing aroung 10000.00.

I will be using my 3rd room as a back drop, So I will have to get a tank that will fit though the 36" front door, hehehe.

What demension tank do you recommend. I can go as big as 96" wide.

With the floor, my house is built in 56'. So the floor joist are 16" apart and 2x10's. That why I was just thinking of puting 3-4 more joist. But If they make those new beams 2x10's, they would probably be easy to handle.

I was a journyman electrician for 12 years and I will be getting help from a master carpenter.

You web-site is very helpful.

Thanks for posting everyone

Steve

I think the tank was 750 pounds empty.

I did most everything myself including the room, electric, plumbing, drywall etc... with a little help from a friend that was a carpenter.

I think if memory serves, it all cost around 10 to 12K for everything including all the new equipment. That includes the A/C unit for the room. Tank is a Tenecor.

I love the tank in the wall. If anybody has the room it is definatly the way to go. Having 800 gallons in a 14 by 14 room is a little tricky though but A/C will take care of it.

Good luck with the projects.

In the final stages of the setup / finishing of my 150 (60"x24"x24") in-wall. Its actually going to be visable from both sides, flush on one side and flanked by bookcases on the other (that's the main part I'm still working on).

This will allow the use of both rooms, although it does limit somewhat the equipment options (I expect I'll spill some equipment into the bookshelves, behind cabinet doors of course).

I could drop you some pics if you'd like....

I don't have pictures yet, only some CAD drawings someone did for me. The room has not been built yet, just waiting for the contractor now. Here's what it will look like. 375 gallons, 96x30x30.

Hi everyone,

I am either going with a 96x30x30 or a 96x36x30 if it will fit down the stair. I have a pic of where it will be going. I just finished the basement 1 year ago and will have to move all the 3-way switch for the game room. I'm glam im an electrician, but it will still be a pain moving then.

The end of the tank centered will be exactly at the end of the door way(I will be filling that in and coming in the room from the laundry room.

I will be put in a thermostat controlled fan and a humidistat controlled fan, both venting to the outside.

Humidity is a probably the bigger the tank gets.

Here's a couple of pics of my setup. It's a 125 g. viewable from the kitchen enclosed in a cabinet, and the livingroom side flush with the wall surrounded by a frame
