WOW! Mustang, that is the most impressive tank and website that I have ever seen. You are the man!

I nominate this tank for "Featured Aquarium" in AdvancedAqaurist magazine!

Thanks for sharing! :)

Stonehaven,
That is a very "pretty" looking display. I realy like the lighting coloring and how it gives that particular overall look to the tank. Mind if I ask what the light setup is, or is it just the way the pic turned out?

My pics pale by comparison to some of these beautiful shots posted but if you go to my site http://samuland.com/obsessions/ you can see my now empty 200g inwall, visible on both sides, pain the a, money sucking, eyesore that my wife complians about me not filling it all the time.

I need an asprin!

Hey sam your tank is just about perfect.
I like it ...... a lot.

No really am I weird here, I like the gear more than the livestock anyway. After the disaster I have been a bit unenthused about throwing another ton of money at this thing.

On another note when it is up and running (it had some tangs and snowflake and a couple of other things in it before the disaster) it does look fantastic.

I am having an artist do a painting for me that will fit in the frame on the living room side to control light when I need to... ie I want to watch a movie at night.

Hey Sam, If you're really done with the hobby for a while, it seems a shame to leave it empty...

---fill it with live plants -would make the room look really cool. Even the lighting would work for you.

---or have a freshwater biotope - can't think of the name right now but it's mostly pond-type water plants and the water only comes up about 8-10 inches with fw fish below - very cool and pretty easy to look after.

Wow, very nice-looking set-ups. That's my plan down the road. First I have to buy another house and quit being a nomad... :D

Stonehaven, very cool , the color of your walls really set the tank off nicely. 8)

I've contacted my LFS today to see if he's still in business... still no response so that's not looking good!

We'll see I rarely give up... I need to concentrate on a lighting canopy first then live stuffs!

Sam,
Why is the tank empty?
Also, those brass valves going into the sump are scary, could leach copper, I would think

Well my leached coper from brass thread was a major topic here about 1.5 years ago! it generated so many responses .... I digress....

the low down quick version...

I was redoing the whole setup... wanted to go 1st class all the way so working for an engineering company I got someone to look up seawater and spec out what material to use. Brass was the answer! As you see they were installed... I had already replaced all the equipment under there with what you see in the pics about $3k worth when you add in the lights and the cabinets and the computer and the....

Next I r/o'ed the tank full and called my LFS and had them bring out all the rock and sand you see int he pics... $2k ching...

2 weeks brown alage bloom bought the cleanup crew... they were dead before they hit the bottom... pretty soon all the worms were coming out and dying... all parameter were on the 0 perfect! (did not check for copper at this point... I was using R/O there was no need) I asked the board for help. Ron Shimek eventually figured out from the pics to check for copper... this was after every test in the book had been exhausted! Bam off the chart... ok damage control...

Cut the valves, water all over the place put in new pvc 50% water change. Run 2 days 50% water change again check the copper almost none... but bad new from Dr. Ron Copper it turns out chemically combines with tada! Calcium... Had to throw out the rock and the sand ... oucjh my wallet hurts just think about when I dumped out that rock. Then I had to bathe the entire system in a sulfuric acid solution... NIGHTMARE! Acid cloud int he house, scott air pack to breath... geeze!

Since then the tank has been dry except for the a couple of flushes with a batch of R/O... but now I've got the bug again and I've got tax money coming soon!

anyway ... didn't mean to hijack the thread or take so long on this story but there you go... I have a dozen other "expensive" hobbies that kept me sated until now.

DO IT! 1.5 years is a long enough time to grieve. When my tank of two years crashed after a heatwave I got right back into it. I'm a little more careful this time around though  . Welcome back.

Hi again everone,

Thank for all the responses. This thread got HUGE!!!!!

Well I finally bought my tank today. I bought a 96x30backx24 high(300g) Tenecor is building the tank. It will have 4 16x16 holes in the top for access and for the 4-400w MHs. I decided on a trapaziod(spelling) overflow in the back center 18" wide on the back, 5" out from the back, 12" wide on the front of the overflow with both front edges going on angles to the back.

The overflow has 2-1" drains and 2-3/4" returns. Should I have gone bigger?

I also have 6-1" holes, 4" up from the bottom and 10 inches apart, 3 on each side of the back. For closed loops on each side.

The tank is coming Feb 10 or 11th.

Now I have to rip part of my wall(pic on 1st page) out.

When building the stand, should I coat the wood with anything after it is up, before the tank is put on it?

Thanks for all the help

Steve
