Take a look at this illustration from the Sequence Pump webpage:

Whats wrong with using the configuration on the right for a closed loop? Wouldn't this be a heck of a lot easier than drilling the back wall? You could upsize the intake line to make sure the is no restriction. I guess the valve at the high spot is to let water in the first time but after that if both ends stay submerged it should be no problem.

Thoughts?

Should work as long as pump stays primed after power outage.

Also make sure it doesn't drain tank of water to sump if power goes out.

It works fine, I have one running on my 120. Just make some sort of intake that hangs off the back. There is no danger of the pump losing prime because both ends will be submerged even w/ the power off and a lower tank level. It can't drain the tank for the same reason.

I don't know about you but I don't really see myself drilling a hole in the back of my tank. :|

I'll second monkey boy.

I did this with my tank. Took an old seaclone plastic tube that the Maxijet hooked up to and used it for the intake of my MAG7 closed loop. As long as the pump is below the surface of the water once you prime it, it keeps its siphon. Works like a charm.

What's the best way of priming this configuration? or from the drawing, the T with plug is to prime?

Feed a powehead into one of the two openings. Intake or outlet. Simple as that. If not that have some way to prime it. A high point with a sealable opening. ie a PVC 'T' with the highest point being a threaded plug you can open to prime and reseal.

I have run a closed loop located above the tank for quite a few years now .... Water Circulation.

I am currently setting up a similar system for a friend, which consists of three circulation pumps located in a cupboard beside the tank, common intake in the tank and a total of six outlets.[/url]

So, do you think there is any advantage having the pump below water level?

Anyone have any suggestions of a pump to run such a loop that you could put on a wavemaker? Or, has anyone run a Mag on a wavemaker?

I use a closed loop with my Amp Master 3000 and two 1" Sea Swirls. Once its primed it can't loose siphon unless the water drops below the U-tube intake, even then my pump will just start right back up.
