I also like the height. As stated above, you can compensate for the height with a deep sand bed.(home depot-southdown sand with some dertrivore kits.)I have done this on my 220 tank(6"sand bed),and I have added wood molding above the bottom tank frame(siliconed glued on the glass) of the tank to hide the depth of the sand. The bottom layers become black/discolored because of the lack of oxigen, butas we know this is good, however unsightly. The molding looks great, and can be made to match your stand.I think you will be happy with the extra wide width also. More surfice area for the sand, and area for clams.Just leave room in the back of the tank for you to fiddle around when it is set up.BTW-If this is a reef tank,be ready for 3x 400 watt MH's with VHO supplement. Anthony P.S. I wish I had one.

Think about it this way. If you held your arm up to a yard stick, unless you're 7 feet tall, you probably won't be able to reach all the way across. I'm 5'10" and my arm is just over 2' long. Even if you have a DSB, which could take up to half a foot or so off your reach, there's still those 6" to deal with. And, that's only reaching straight down. If you reach diagonally, from the front to the bottom of the back, that's over 4'. It's not undoable, but you may want to reconsider if you're putting corals and stuff in there. There are a lot of those "arms" to reach the bottom, but they are not designed to handle anything heavy, and are not the most precise tools in the world. I'm not saying don't get it, just be prepared to pull out your snorkel and mask when cleaning the tank and trying to arrange things.

Three feet tall is not too tall at all. My tank is 96LX36H32W. I am only 5'4". I can get to the bottom of my tank without much problem. I do have prongs and other things to help but if need, I can got to the bottom of my tank. I do have a 10" sand bed so the effective hight of my tank is only 26 inches. I love my tank. It is very beautiful but it is a money sink.
Mine was made by Oceanic with primeter bracing. I think it cost me 4800 brand new (forgot the exact price)

A friend of mine has a 400 gallon glass tank in Tampa.

It is around 1" thick glass, looks to be very high quality. The dimensions are 72x36x35. Althought it has been used for a few years, it looks brand new still.

My questions are

Is 35" tall too tall to manage? I am worried about being able to clean the glass plus placing corals into the tank and such.

What do you think its worth? What would this cost brand new with just the glass tank and stand? I want to make a fair offer but want to know what is retail on something like this?

PLEASE HELP ME SOON! I WANT TO MAKE AN OFFER!

Thanks
LEAH

Laeh,

I have a 360 gl (96Lx36Wx24H) and it does take some doing to place or remove things in the aquarium. When I clean the sides my arm is pretty much completely in! I can't imagine a tank almost a foot higher! (by the way, that is a strange height). How tall will your stand be?

Deciding on a price is going to depend on what you are buying and its condition. Is it the tank only? A brand new tank will run you around $4,000. I would not offer more than half, but it really depends.

i do not think it is too tall..it is similar to a 120(4'x2'x2') in appearance just 1.5x in all dimensions
you could do a nice 8" sand bed and have 27" to reach in..it will be difficult, but i think well worth it if the price is right
i would want a large sump/refugium though with a lot of surface area...maybe 4'x2'x18" tall
is it reef ready?
i would say $700 would be fair(probably 1/2 of what it was sold depending on manufacturer)
i am always one to make sure it is 100% stable though(no leaks, chips, funky looking silicone, etc)
