well from the sounds of it nothing you are going to say or do will help. so if he is on vaction you might be better off just bring all the live stock to the lfs and just taking a sledgehammer to the tank.
If I did that I would have no more enjoyment in life!! when ever I feel sad :( I just stop in to check it out lol :P I do always feel bad for the fish.... just hope soon he will get the picture that saltwater isn't for him and just give up! Then maybe he will give me a good deal on his equipment ! :D

With regards to filter socks, Rob, how often do you change yours? I do not really like having sediments sit in my tank, even in a filter sock. So for me it is every other day. Then in the washer it goes, with a little bit of bleach. "extended rinse". And before I use them I also rinse them manually.

Isn't there detergent left over from every wash? so im sure there is a tad of detergent on the socks IMO, we have never used the same filter sock always brand new when ever we do a water change a new sock goes on. If you dont use detergent what do you use to wash them? cant you then just rinse them under water ? just asking some questions.

I don't see how you can change your filter sock only when you do a water change unless you do one every week at the minimum. My filter socks need to be changed about every 5 days if not 4 and I have 2 7" filter socks. There's no way that I'd would buy 2 socks that often; I just have 12 that I reuse. You just throw them in the wash on hot with some bleach. I run a "clean washer" cycle first then heavy duty wash with deepwater and extra rinse cycle and then let them air dry for about a day.
