Fry or fritz put it up on a thread. All you need is a deep cycle marine battery, some wire connectors and some 12 guage wire. Attach the battery to the UPS Pos to Pos Neg to Neg and it will charge with the unit. In the event of a power loss you can run for quite some time. Depending on what you have hooked up. The only downfall is the batt doesn't fit in the UPS.

Brendan, not sure if the small chargers in the small UPS will charge a large bettery fully. Most of those are smart chargers that will shut off the charging when the bettery are full. I would look at the schematic for the charger spec before going out and buying all those things.

Air alone will not keep your tank safe. You will notice that the temp is what blowing out con eds transformer and that outside your home is well obove 90 degrees , the insinde of your home is hotter and the tank even hotter than that! The heat is the real killer during the outage along with O2 depravation. If you have O2 but still have to deal with the heat issue, things in your tank will still die unfortunatly. I went thru this and had O2 running during our big outage a few years ago and the O2 was a drop in the bucket compared to what the readings on my tanks temp gauge was. Invest in a natural gas generator, its the only way to go. hooks up to your home gas line and will work indefinitly for months if needed.

Good point! My mistake. thought everyone lived in a house..lol...
how about powering the chiller on a battery pack like what was mentioned before and an air intake or air stones. that should do it!

I think the chiller will kill it pretty quick.
I don't think I have seen a consumer UPS that can supply enough to power a chiller.

You should still have ice or frozen food you can use to cool the tank down a few hours after the blackout, provided you don't keep opening the freezer.

Mark, If there's anything I can do to help replace some LS, PM me. My only requirement before I give you corals is that you do have some kind of backup in place in case this happens again.

11hrs is nuts.....I couldnt even imagine that with my tank....(knock on wood for everyone on here ....) But yeah i was also thinking about getting a battery air pump from fosters or a UPS, dunno which yet but i agree its the rising temps that will get the best of you....

How did everyone make out with yesterday , and last night??? Temps in the
"real feel" of 115 degrees :headache:.....and than the huge storm that actually knocked out power to most of central avenue for this morning so my job actually told me to go home!!! Trees and power lines were everywhere......

The only loss so far for me is that during the storm i knocked a cup of water onto my laptop and within seconds the thing shut down....for now the battery and hard drive are out and everything is cooling off...hopefully that does the trick or im out another thousand or so....:help:
