It's one thing if a fish has ich in a store, or comes down with it within hours after you buy it. But other than that, I find that ich doesn not occur in established systems. In the first year or two with my tank, ich was common on new fish...they would get it is about 2-4 days. inevitable in tangs, especially hippo tangs. Since then, never again. My tank is about 16 years old now, so i haven't seen ih in 14 years. Not even on hippo tangs. I no longer keep hippos, but not because of ich. They just aren't suited to my tank. (They will grow for a brief period of time, then stop growing. Even when they live for over a year, no growth. Full bellies...they just don't thrive.)

I can deal with ich sometimes but petco have something much worse, something that doesn't show up immediately that go inside/or come out the fish that kills. I called them a few times, i guess they don't care...

If you have a good eye in this hobby and your patient with the livestock you can find great scores at petco. Sure you really dont want to do business with them because there are more negative results with there livestock which is a shame because your taking these beautiful creatures out of the ocean and they just end up dying but if you know what your doing you can save the animals life.

I was just waiting for someone to say this...Everyone just concentrates on how bad Petco as a company really is, but seriously for a good price and some patience, you can really find a great deal sometimes.

Like with this whole purple tang situation, someone with a spacious tank can buy it, qt it for a long time, do what you are supposed to do and boom.....healthy fish in your healthy tank system

Yea but most people either don't have a qt set up or don't want to be bothered w/ qt'ing and would rather just buy a fish who's healthy in the first place instead of one who is sick. What if you buy that fish qt it for weeks then the ich gets so bad it dies? Then you're out almost 100 bucks for NOTHING and there's no refund or return because it has been weeks and they offer what? 24? 48? hour guarantee? Sorry but not worth the risk.
