Anybody checked out the Geothermal Aquaculture Research Foundation site? Damn thats a mouthful! Really though they look like they are really doing their part to produce gorgeous reefs without taking mother natures gifts from her! I love this idea of reefers only using captive bred animals and even fake rock. Anybody with me on this one?

Well the majority of the corals in my tank are all frags. As a matter a fact the only thing that isnt a frag is my Bubble coral. Other than that the rest are frags out of other reefers tanks.

You could make your own LR, they should have the recipe for it on GARF. I think you still need to seed it with LR though. I'm not sure but it takes a while to cure from what ive read.

Eventually we will be able to get seeded agrocrete. That will be the day! And yes you are right about fraging here, majority of this board takes pride in sharing the wealth of the ocean. I have seen other forums where people are not as giving! Does anyone use the fake rock or know anyone who has? Any side effects?

There are no side effects, after 6 months you wont even be able to tell if it isnt live rock. Whats even better is its even better than base rock because it is lighter and more pourous. Whats so amazing about garf if they only use reg 40 watt bulbs

I have just cured about 8 pieces of Argocrete rock for my new tank. Cure time was about 8 weeks. The best thing is i could make the rocks fit very specific places in the tank like the corners and around pipes etc.
The hardest thing is making the pieces look natural which isnt actually too hard, it just takes a bit of thought before you mix up the cement.
I'll post some pics when i get the chance.

I would like to encrust the backside of my tank with agrocrete. 1" thick or so just to give it a more natural look. Any thoughts? Its just a 10g so i wont cry if I loose the tank. If I roughed the glass do you think it would stick? Or just make the mold and super glue it in? Maybe I should just try and build in the whole rock into one structure wall included?

i have around 75 lb of agrocrete rock in my tank, they were made by another reefer who moves to florida, he gave it to me for 25 bucks, but boy, this stuff looks better then any LR you can get at the store. coraline, polyps sponges and etc... they are heavier then average fiji. weights the same amount almost as tonga kaleni. he used dead acro and LR rubble to make the rock so it looks like real LR.
