For those of u who don't know , I'm moving into a 57 rimless and I didn't want a complicated sump with sock holders and all these other bells and whistles that I can live without, so I took it upon myself to attemp building my own sump using the following :

1) 29 gallon Aqueon tank I got from petland for 49 bucks
Tank measures 30L x 13W x 18H
2) one tube of Aqueon sIlicone also purchased from petland for 7.99.
3) 4 pieces of acrylic I got from my job for free

I hope this serves as a good tool for newbies and people who don't want or need to spend alot on a sump.

Happy reefing!!!

No idea..... I'm sure someone will chime in. I can't see why won't adhere and this it's prob easier o work with the acrylic. The sump i just did looks messy as can be, works but nowhere near as clean looking

thanks fellas, but i do know what you mean thirty6, my first sump was a slopping mess and i had silicone everywhere lol , i just cut a nice narrow angle on the applicator and thats what did it for the clean look, and it takes a bakers hand if you will to go across patiently and seal it right, i may have missed a bit here and there but overall its well sealed, thanks for looking at my frankensump guys , i appreciate the feedback.!

My understanding is that since glass and acrylic expand/contract at different rates you don't want it snug as the glass might crack. If the acrylic is thin enough that it flexes under pressure maybe that's not too important.

This may be true 46 but since the temps on our display tanks is always so methodically balanced its not something one should worry about and the term snug is used very loosely on my part cause I did it so that the baffles can still have a descent amount of play on the sides.

Very nice, mine has silicone all over the place. How did you get it so clean especially between the baffles. You are making me want to go home and clean it up a bit. The tank I purchased for the sump is a 20 gallon high. It gives me more room in the cabinet for an ATO container. Im also putting together a 57 gallon rimless.
