ok guys..seriously..wtf happened to MR..i used to always log on every single day and read threads and posts about all different topics and all different stuff for sale..now all i ever see is arguments..heres a few things i notice and pisses me off..

if someone is selling something...answer only with a YES im taking it, or asking questions about it.....NOT questioning the price or even saying that you can get it cheaper..

if someone asks a question about corals and you are not 100% sure because you never really dealt with the exact coral species...DONT ANSWER!!

if someone asks a question about equipment..and you answer based on what you have READ or HEARD....DONT ANSWER !!

a simple question or a simple for sale thread now turns out to be 8 pages of straight garbage, just because everyone has to add their own comment. its ok if you want to add somthing funny, but make sure it doesnt offend the person posting.

only advice i ever take are from people who have the proof in their houses of what they are talking about. i have a lot of friends on this site, and i know exactly who knows what they are really talking about. but not everyone does, especially the newbies, so please lets stop confusing the shiet out of them with he said she said.

and if anyone thinks that what im talking about is stupid..i honestly dont care hahahahaha !!

hopefully this reaches a lot of people and they start thinking before posting, and maybe, just maybe, we can see REAL threads and REAL answers !!!

........................and im done !!

Yes I do! But I hear ya.. I just finished reading a few rather informative threads from '07. Just told a buddy, wow I missed that boat... wish I started the hobby earlier, scenery was so much different then. Here's one of them http://www.manhattanreefs.com/forum/coral-farming/22217-italian-blue-coral-method.html

I don't tend to comment much on this type of thread, but I am going to add my 2 cents to this one.

There are a few differences between many of the posts/threads we see here today and what is on the referenced thread...and there are also some similarities.

What you see on that thread is a single 'wow' post, not 25 of them, not a bunch of posts that say +1 or have nothing to do with the topic of the thread.
What you don't see on there (but I can) is that there were 20 posts removed from that thread - because they were not on topic or contained bad info.
Why don't the Moderators now do that with threads?
We'd love to but the site is MUCH larger than it was back then membership wise and for whatever reason we seem to be having an issue with a number of people who post just for the sake of posting and too often their info is incorrect, way off topic, pure sarcasm or a very failed attempt at humor.

I just spent 20 minutes deleting posts from a FOR SALE thread..that had 3 sensible posts and 38 posts of nonsense on it. Is that what you want to have to read through in the For Sale forum? I don't. Let's keep threads on topic please.

Too often you think you are about to read a 'juicy' thread with an interesting title/topic that has 30 posts on it only to find that 10 posts are worth reading and the rest are...unnecessary (see list above) and have done nothing but waste your precious time.

What you saw in that referenced thread was an intelligent discussion by reefers who were looking to share information RESPECTFULLY with each other with the goal of learning more about the topic.

Do we have good content here on MR - yes, we do! A lot of it is now in different forums...like the Chemistry Forum or Lighting Forum or Advanced Reefs, so you have to go and look for it. It is General Discussion, the For Sale forum and Reefs for Beginners that are having the largest issues with unnecessary posts.

I ask that you please stick to the topics posted and refrain from answering a thread if you have no clue what you are talking about (except to ask a pertinent question on that topic).

Wait ... your nitrates are high too?! Why is that?! It must be the salt we use ... let me make the 4,000,000th thread on these topics. :)

I don't understand why this site even has a search bar. (j/k ... even though it is not used very often, CLEARLY)

i pretty much make a thread when the search engine pulls up threads where it is unclear what to do or what to add.there are thousands of threads with the same thing with 100 different opinions.sometimes the thread is so old there can be new options.but when it comes to ich, nitrates, phosphates and salt brands i feel like just saying SEARCH THE TOPIC ARRRRGGG..especially with salt.there will be opinions on what to use and how wonderful each one is.somethings are trial and error and people cant tell you what to do.i really wish more topics on REAL chemistry threads.show me some articles that people want to read.where is shaunw and all those guys who are so smart on chemistry and are willing to try different things and share it with us.so tired of high school kids writing threads that everyone knows about thinking he/she is the inventor.im just getting into SPS and i want to read new and exciting breakthroughs to help me out.instead SPS and chemistry is hardly ever used.just the same general discussion and things about LED.ive gone as far as going other places to learn instead of this being my primary web site which is sad because i love MR.aways feels likeim cheating when i do..feel a little dirty LOL

Well I can see this thread getting out of control very quickly since it was started late last night. Since I am a subject of the thread, I am not really going to post other than this one time.

Yes I did start a SALT THREAD! But I added a Poll to my thread to make it easier for the next person who does use the search feature can see that a poll was done. The point of these types of forums are to share information that was already collected. And sometimes the same information can be collected in different ways. Would you rather look at a poll and see actual numbers, or have to go through each page of a thread to see who says what and keep your own numbers. I did mess up that thread and forgot to add one of the most popular salts. That was an error on my part, and I checked to see if there were ways to fix it.

People in glass houses should not throw stones, I'm sure you what that means, and to those people who only spend their time on MR in the "FOR SALE FORUM" or their own personal thread, or just saying "WOW" when someone updates their own tank thread. Can you consider that a help.

Some people are all over different threads, but some are not.

I am done.......

Apparently I am a subject of a very boring post too... Isn't the whole point of a Reef Forum to ask questions so you can hear from experienced people in this TIME PERIOD??? Yes, you can reseach all you want, but when you join a forum, you want the the answers from people who have had the problem and maybe, just maybe, there are news ways to deal with them and the the more experienced reefer will be able to shed new light...you'll have to excuse us who are new or lacking knowledge in this hobby and want to learn....maybe you all who find the posts 'boring' should stick to the advanced forum, if us newbies aren't of enough interest...
I am done also....

I think his point was that a lot of the topics that come up are very repeated, especially on regard of topics relating to nitrate, cycling, HA, slime algae, and phosphate. He does make some very good points though. Don't be discouraged, forums are a great source of learning from other people's mistakes.

Some people are interpreting this totally wrong. The main concerns were not about "boring" topics or anythig like that. It was about stressing the fact to give good and great advice due to experience. It is also to stop with the petty arguments and price comparisons. A newbie should ask as many questions as they want, but the people answering should really know what they are talking about before answering. Someone new to this hobby will try what one person tells them, without really knowing why they have to do it that way. Next thing you know, thhey have even more problems, because they were confused with all the different answers they received. When i first started, and til this day, I still ask lots of questions. I also make sure I understand the answers that are given to me, so that I know what I need to be observing. Theres no need for the newbies to take offense to this thread because they were askin questions, that's not what this was about. Pauli quoted the important part of my thread. Read that over and over again and you will see exactly what I was trying to accomplish. And all those stealing my "I'm done" line..... I hate you all!! Hahahahaa!! I'm jp.. That 'line' is from Sammy from Jersey Shore. So imagine that line with her accent and I know you will end up laughing before reading this.
