So you want to get 10 clowns in 45 gallons? That has major disaster written all over it if you ask me, especially all different species.

I guess your ignoring the places that say there in abouts 30 gallons for 1 clownfish?

I think thats about right in my opinion, overkill according to some. But 5 PAIRS in 45 G? Nah I wouldnt do it.

I was always told by reliable people that the key to the hobby, other than patience is not to overstock your tank.

Guess Im a nervous nelly, but my fish are happy due to not being cramped

If you actually do it good luck with it.

I've seen two are fine in a 20g so 4/5 in a 45 sound fine. as far as 10. i was just over exaggerating the amount. sorry to cause heart attacks. 10 is definitely too many in a 45 as they reach their adult sizes.

The only way I would ever add more than 2 clowns in a tank that size is if they are all brothers and sisters and were raised together. There have been tanks like this and they were successful. Other than that there is too much risk for fighting, clowns are very territorial.

Besides coloration differences, is there any major differences? Obviously lineage, false percs will not host an anemone as easily as true percs, what else is there to know? sorry should possibly just visit the FAQ for clowns.

+1 Arati. This plan spells disaster. Juveniles don't stay juveniles for very long and once they start to mature you are looking at major warfare. At Atlantis they have maybe 10 pairs in the 1000 g. display. Though I might be able to get away with it, I 'd be reluctant to try to add a 2nd pair of clowns to my 8' 240g. system. This is just a bad idea IMO/E.

Im curious what you guys consider success. In years..

It seems to me that this question comes up alot.. an awful lot. without fail there is someonet away wi who says they keep 6 clownfish in a nano cube with no problems. It always seems that they are talking about Juvys. I know there are anomolys and I have seen some wierd pairs and people keeping 27 clowns in the same tank. Heck goto atlantis marine world they have tons in the anemone tank.

I have bred and raised clownfish for a few years. I have owned nearly every species or clownfish and thier hosts.

I am sorry but in my eprience a 45 cube is not suited to more then 2 clownfish. they may be great as juvys but I will bet in 3 years or so, there would only be one pair left.

Like I said ime the best advice is 1 pair in a tank that size. If what you want is long term success. I consider success 3+ years. I dont know to many people with multiple adult pairs in a small tank.

Anyone have 2 or more adult pairs in a tank under 100g?

only stupid questions are the ones unasked. don't ask questions cause their asking for trouble.

this was a question looking for opinions. i've gotten it and not doing it. plus it was a hypothetical number to get a realistic view on how many could fit in a tank and if others had different breeds co-exist.

so not to get specific...jimmy relax. i've had pretty damn good practices and know how to do my research (please check njreefers.com, manhattanreefs.com, nano-reef.org, reefcentral.com and see if you get my specific question. co-exist of different breeds of clowns and size of tank is recommended w #of pairs) or ask questions before doing it. sorry your comments in this thread and the other just gives perception of trying to talk down.

;) have a happy new year otherwise and though you may a good reefer i personally rather not need your opinions in the future.

oOo, your going to get in trouble by the likes of others.

but seriously, have you ever noticed if they've ever fought or any stress between territories? would you recommend or care to incline a recommendation of possibly two pairs of clowns in a 45? would you do it from your experience or knowledge?

**have decided my stocking plan and does include only ONE pair**

it was a hypothetical question during planning stages of a "school" of mixed breed of clowns. would be awesome if they bred mixtures between them.

I had a pair of tank raised false percs with a pair of black false perc, one reg false perc jumped, then one black and one regular paired up for quite some time, then I moved them to a 30 gal. want the black pair, so put them in there, they paired up instantly, also have a maroon in the orig. tank, a 155, when one of the false reg. pair jumped, he started chasing the single one, always left the black ones alone. Yes, definately all at one time, otherwise, probably a war.
