I want to try out a huge clownfish setup. consisting of about 5 pairs of different type of clowns....

i have a 45 cube so in my mind have ample enough space to co-exist with a decent amount of pairs.

the question is will they fight between the "clans"....some of these fish cost 100 each

I would say that they will all get along if u have a couple of anemons in there at least one for every pair of clowns but dont quote me on that the most clowns i have kept in one tank is 2 pairs and they are getting along with no fights

this is a question that will never have an answer. you will find some people who will tell you yes and others who will tell you no. I think your better off sectioning the tank if possible, but a 45 cube is too small. take into account the adult size of the fish and the anemone as well. My father has a pair with an anemone that has expanded to about 10" in diameter, just take those things into account. good luck.

i tried several pairs in my 80g and had alot of fighting, i had 7 anenome's as well, but the dominate female would chase all of them out of any anenome they went into. at most i would do 1 much larger clown with the rest small and same size and all have to go in at the same time

Actually, each clown was a different breed. they were true perc, false clown, and occelaris. the true perc and occelaris still fought but didn't kill each other. the false clown.. I found its skeleton on the sand bed =\

I say if you add them all at the same time so there is no territory they should be fine, Just make sure you have anemones and rock in place prior to adding and they'll split up in which ever groups they please...but its actually the luck of the draw! GO for it let me know the outcome!

i mean the worst that can happen is lose a few hundred dollars in fish? lol. i know it really depends but i'm looking for a possible success ratio. every situation is different but I rather know if others have done well or ok with mixing in different breeds into a tank.

i'll probably end up with two pairs. thinking of snowflakes (same as constantin) and true percs are going to be my choices. they will go in at the same time. I will start with those two and see where it goes from there.

thanks straight jiggy. i think after all the reading I've done. fish do better when they are introduced at once. First time, i got into the hobby 15g salt water setup, very basic and horrible setup when i look back. It had 8 blue devils (damsels) and a niger trigger (ugly in my eyes til this day) but they didn't fight like i would expect.

Im curious what you guys consider success. In years..

It seems to me that this question comes up alot.. an awful lot. without fail there is someone who says they keep 6 clownfish in a nano cube with no problems. It always seems that they are talking about Juvys. I know there are anomolys and I have seen some wierd pairs and people keeping 27 clowns in the same tank. Heck goto atlantis marine world they have tons in the anemone tank.

I have bred and raised clownfish for a few years. I have owned nearly every species or clownfish and thier hosts.

I am sorry but in my eprience a 45 cube is not suited to more then 2 clownfish. they may be great as juvys but I will bet in 3 years or so, there would only be one pair left.

Like I said ime the best advice is 1 pair in a tank that size. If what you want is long term success. I consider success 3+ years. I dont know to many people with multiple adult pairs in a small tank.

Anyone have 2 or more adult pairs in a tank under 100g?

Yes noob as crazy as it sounds but true they all get along but like arati said the clowns are mostly all juvyies so that is y they get along but next month I shall start a 90 cube and will introduce atleast 2 pairs 2 each corner of tank along with 2 haddoni carpets to house em
