I was browsing some online fishstores and came across a Flying Gurnard. I have never seen this type of fish before and there isnt much description to it just that its hard to come by for the diver and only one available.

Curious to know if anyone else has heard of them or even if anyone on here has one. They look like they have wings, must be amazing to see swimming about.

TFP has 2 in their touch tank. They need A LOT of room for swimming. They also get very big. Not fair to keep them in a household type tank. The TFP tank is about 20 feet long and about 8 feet wide.

WOW! There is no mention of this one the description of this fish on the online store. Just from the winglike fins I gathered as much that they need alot of room to swim. Definitely should NOT be in a household tank. Is it similar to a stingray then? (I know its a different species but just bc you mention they are in a touch tank do they swim like a stingray?)

What is TFP?

Wow the youtube video was cool, it doesnt seem like a fish at all. Must be cool to see in person.

It looks as though it could glide! Those are some huge wings it has in the video bigger than what the photo showed!

I have ordered one for a customer once. Kept him in my sump. Came in about 3" . Cool fish. I remember when I went crabbing last summer in captree, caught one in my crab cage. I think they call them sea robbins also.

the question would be are the sea robins caught here, as adults, the same species of flying gunard that is collected with tropicals in the summer as juveniles.

Funny, I saw this fish on Sealife Inc yesterday.

Thats exactly where I saw it and wondered about it. There is no description or warning as to what size or type of tank this fish needs. It looks like it has wings so I figured it must need a really big tank. Its so odd looking and I had never seen one before.

They really should have put care requirements and tank size for the fish on that site.

Haha I was wondeirng the same thing. Looks like a poor fish that will be bought by a newbie with a small tank because it doesn't have specs. Sad...
I think this year I am going to try and keep a juvenile (only about an inch) Sea Robin in my 29 gallon native/macroalgae tank for a little bit and see how he does.
