I have a clown fish, blue tang and a domino damsel. They are about 2 years old. I recently bought this tank from someone about 6 months ago. The tank wasn't taken care of very well, but since I've had it things are looking good. The corals I have in the tank seem to be growing nicely. The only downside... the fish, especially the clown are pretty aggressive. They seem to do fine with each other, but every time I try to add something new (coral, shrimp) things go south. The clown seems to have a problem when I add new corals. He is always pushing rocks around and has actually damaged some of my corals. I will actually come home to find a coral upside down on the bottom of my tank. When I first got the tank, I added a fire shrimp... he's doing great. I then added a pretty big cleaner shrimp about 1 month ago, and the blue tang kept attacking him. Basically eating away at the antennas until there was nothing left. Next minute I know, the shrimp is in pieces on the bottom of the tank with the fire shrimp eating away at him. I have also tried to add peppermint shrimp, but those were also eaten. I really don't know what to do. I am still pretty new to all this, but any help would be appreciated. I am even thinking about selling or trading the fish and starting fresh. These fish are costing me too much. I'm wondering if they would do better in a larger tank. I currently have a 29 gallon. Oh, they all seem to be fully grown. The tang and clown are about 4 inches and the damsel is about 3 inches?

Thats a golden striped maroon clown- tomatos and maroons are the most agressive clowns and the blue hippo needs a much bigger tank then a 29G. Blue hippo tangs usually call for 75G or bigger if I'm not mistaken. Damsels are also very agressive fish. You seem to have pretty much all agressive tank mates in a relatively small tank. Hope you work it out, good luck

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, the clown seems to run the tank. The damsel seems to be most aggressive when it comes to feeding. The blue tang seems to just mind it's own business and search for food all day. The clown is definitely the biggest pain.

Damsel fish are just an extremely aggressive fish that I would not keep unless I was keeping a damsel fish tank.lol
Get rid of the 3, and start over would be my advice! You will be much happier with new less aggressive fish.

Thanks for the help/info. I will definitely trade them out. Does anyone know of any stores that might actually take them? I am in downtown Manhattan.

I don't know of any stores, but you may want to post them here in our "For Sale/For Trade" forum. If you choose to post them here for sale make sure to put a price or your thread will be deleted.

Well, if you want him, he's yours! But, I have heard that I can't add another clownfish to the tank with the maroon still in it. Ugh, so frustrating. The clownfish is really beautiful, but the biggest pain I have ever seen.

Well I have a 1 marron already. I heard that you can add another aggressive clown fish aslong as its the same kind and different size. I would like to take him to see if they would get along. If not i can seperate them by putting 1 into my nano tank until i find them a good home.

Get yourself a nice true percula or an oscalerurus<-bad spelling if you want to keep a clown they're a lot more peaceful and if you're worried put the clown in last.:scratchch
