cvila, with your size tank you need to add the clowns together if you want to keep more then 1. This way they will establish their hierarchy on their own hopefully without killing each other. It is much easier when introduced together.
Thing is I feel that you should take a little time to figure out what fish you would like to have in your tank before running out, and getting any.

After you have thought it out, make a list. Then take that list, and put the more aggressive one at the bottom of the list. As you begin to make your purchases start with the shies, and most docile one, and progress to the most aggressive one.
Manny, you are right: It is said that if you introduce the new guy at the total opposite end of the scale (size wise) you have a better chance of them pairing up, or at least getting along. Be aware that there will be some chasing & nipping initially. But you do have to watch for severe chasing & nipping. If that happens you will need to seperate them. Another thing you may want to try before introducing the new maroon directly into your dt is to put the new guy in one of those hanging little tanks for a day or so to give your recedent maroon the opportunity to check it out without attacking him/her.
