I have seen a lot of ORA and C-QUEST clowns for sale lately. What is the big difference in them? I saw them side by side and actually own a Black false perc(ORA) and regualr false(C_quest). The ones in the store looked identical to each other. The blacks looked the same Onyx,Falses, true percs and all misbars were all pretty much the same when compared to each other. The only one that looked different were the Fancy Falses, which had much more black on their fins. So whats the deal?

I not sure what you mean by a money making scheme? They are 2 different companies that breed similar fish so their brood stock of the same species is not identical. Which is better? Both companies produce beautiful, healthy, aqua-cultured fish. ORA however has been a strong supporter of this community via many years of donating to our events.

depends on which LFS or so called vendors you go to, there are a lot of dishonest people out there, just because "they" say is ORA or C-quest, dosn't mean they're O or C, shouldn't let that bother you, if you like it, and you can afford it, its healthy, buy it!

Two companies that breed clowns. Both are good quality and buying captive bred fish keeps people from buying wild caught fish.

Totally agreed. I carried both companies fish and quite often one can tell right off from some shipments. There are other companies breeding clownfish around the world too-their colors are also different slightly. However, there are times that they look very similar.

If you take the Snowflake vs Wyoming White, you can see quite a lot of difference in the white coverage.
If you take the Picasso vs the Designer, you can also see a big difference in the pattern between them(and also the price) too
Certain batches of the ORA true percs have a peculiar mouth shape

Considering some of the type of Clowns they could only come from either ORA or C-Quest, so I can't see a LFS lying about it.

I put this post up because I have seen other i guess no name aqua cultured clowns out there. They seem to be just as healthy and cheaper. I know Sanjay breeds clowns on here, not sure where his original stock came from, but his clowns can't be consider either ORA or C Quest. Unless he works for them I guess. By the way those Wyomings and snowflakes are from crossbred clowns with mutated genes. And just a guess here but I bet they don't live as long as regular clowns. Anything that is albino or white is always from a gene mutation and 99% of the time die before a regular specimen would.

There are a number of different places besides ORA and C-Quest breeding Clowns fish, which some have shown up on LA Driver Den. Those that were listed on Driver Den weren't cheap either, though the quality looked a lot better then the captive breed ones that shown up at places like Petco. Usually the captive breed Clowns are just regular Clowns, not the fancy variations you see with ORA or C-Quest, though you do get some that have missing stripes or other color variations from time to time. As for the mutated genes, well I'm sure they're selectively breed them to get the variations that they want, similar to what they've been doing with Fresh water fish fro years. As for them live as long as regular Clowns, well the jury is still out on that but I've seen some very health captive breed Clowns they have spawn too.

I agree that captive bred can be healthy, probably more healthy in a home aquarium than a wild caught fish. But as for the whites they are mutated and if it is anything like in dogs and cats for example they will have problems. A fact well known is that a pure white dog will always be deaf. And I don't shop at petco for fish lol.

I think you need to get over the mutated angle as a bad thing. Mutations happen all the time in the wild, a lot tend not to make it because they're easily pick out from other more normal patterns and are usually eaten, but some do, which explains different variations from place to place of the same fish. Some times this even leads to a new fish. The problems that usually develop is when a fish has either been over bred or selective bred for some trait, you see this in Freshwater Angels.

If you're talking about pure breeds that's one thing but mutts tend to be healthier and have less problems than pure breeds. I've seen many pure white dogs and their hearing was fine, it's also said that a white cat with blue eyes is deaf, but my cat wasn't. Go figure for well known facts.

Well if you get a white fish that means it is not from different genes but just repeated breeding of fish with the same genes. And not all white animals are deaf, i said dogs lol. And a lot of white animals go for more money because they are designer(money hungry people that do not care about the health of animals) and more rare. White yorkies go for triple the price of a regular colored one. Yet live for about 5 years when a standard lives for aroun 10. When I had oscars the Albinos always died earlier and were always getting sick. No preadators in my tank and they weren't wild caught either. Albino clowns do not occure in the wild by the way. Wyoming whites? Where are there any reefs in Wyoming?
