you can use copper at 1/2 the rate ,this may help your fight. This is better than nothing at all. I have done this and it has worked as ich goes in cycles this may bye the time you need untill you do your tank fix, good luck Pete

Using copper at less than the correct level doesn't do anything. So unless you're at the correct level it's better not to use copper at all.

You do need a good test kits and if you're not going to QT your fish I would suggest getting the Lamotte kit. It cost more than the others but it's worth it.

I have used copper at mabey a bit more than half the dose but not the full dose and it has worked well and no doubt a good test kit is a must as most are hard to read. I spread the dose out with a build up over a few days instead of every 24 hrs I may go to 48. I feel this gives the fish a chance to adjust. I also have a qt tank and now use malachite green, this works well easy on fish but stains many things in the tank green.

You're suppose to build up the copper over a couple of days but for it to work against ich you need to reach the correct level, half the level does do anything. And yes most of the kits are hard to read, as the different levels on kits are tough to tell apart. The Lamotte kit is a little easier to read than the other kits.
