lol K. FWIW, I've noticed that Coris wrasses will do that when they are fighting something off or when they are growing. I can remember many times writing one off as a goner only to have it reappear bigger and healthier than before. I don't know if that is a natural behavior or not.

Interesting..I'd have to go with the growing angle as he looked to be the picture of health (knock wood) before he vanished. He's definitely bigger since he reappeared, maybe some merit to the odd behavior? New teeth? They are much more apparent now. Got me. Just happy he's here :)

Crappy pic of his fangs..can't get him to do this when requested ...lol

If you are willing,
wrap the lobster with some white color tissue and see if the fish still notice it's the same one. I would like to know if the fish is scared more of the red color or the big mouth with thick lips or the big big eyes. LOL

..not sure if I have that much tissue paper laying around Wingo..lol...the reef lobster now resides near my cat who thinks he's cool to sleep on...lol

great story kathy, I thought that fish was not reef safe?

They do sometimes nosh on snails but if you keep them well fed they don't bother much with them. I haven't had to replace any snails/hermits in over a year.

The issue with these beautiful fish is they love to spend the day looking for pods. They never stop moving and have a rather high metabolism (eats like a male teenager..lol).
While on pod hunts they turn over EVERYTHING that isn't nailed (glued :)) down in the tank. Me having a clam or anything else like a brain coral that sits on the sand bed is out of the question - he's be flipping it over all day looking for goodies to eat.
If I get a new coral and try to sneak it into the tank without gluing it down even after the fish has gone to sleep (they bury in the sandbed at night)..it is GUARANTEED that he will have found it within minutes of waking the next day and will have knocked it down off the rock work.
Smart fish.
They don't miss a thing.
Forces me to keep my sandbed clear of the 'junk-yard frags all over the place' look :)

I'll tell the tale of what he does to the Blue Spot Jawfish when I have more time!!
