Those who know me know that my favorite fish is Peter (pita...)
Beautiful but turns over anything not nailed down in the tank, many a day I wanted to strangle him. Must be close to 8" now, so hard to miss or misplace...

No signs of him since last Wednesday. I didn't see him before I left for work, but that isn't uncommon as at times he is a late riser, but I was surprised to not see him when I came home as he is also a glutton and never misses his diner.
No fish, Thursday, Friday, Sat..etc..fast forward to today..no fish when I left this afternoon.
I have been so upset by this.
Checked the overflows & dropped a little food in each day just in case he was in there and I couldn't see him..checked the sump, the floor (100 times...even though there are covers on all of my tanks..). Ran all of the test kits, ammonia on a daily basis..always read zero.
No pieces of red fish anywhere in the tank, no chalk outline, nothing..cranked up the Vortech to blast water around the tank..still no signs..

After a while you start to question everything..all I could come up with was that last Wednesday I received a gift..a reef lobster.
Not just any reef lobster, this guy was BIG!

ok, he's stuffed..and kinda silly looking, but I did bring him down to my office that night when I got in from work and for all I know Peter was happily swimming around until he saw the lobster...whoosh into the rocks...

He sat in my office for 2 days until I decided that maybe, just maybe..SW fish react to their surroundings like some FW fish do?
I have 2 big Oscars and whenever I move furniture around, or change curtains or anything else obvious in the room they live in..they pout. They sit on the bottom of the tank facing backwards..and will do it for a couple of days, refusing meals too before they forgive me for messing with THEIR tank and then all is right with the world until I do something else stupid (in their opinion anyway). This is a fact of life in the Oscar world & well documented.

So maybe Peter thought the lobster was real?? Fish have no idea that there is no water outside of their glass cage. Maybe I scared the heck out of him.
I may never know!
One thing I do know is that Peter was swimming around when I came in today..like he hadn't been missing for a solid week, looked great, not a mark on him, even actually looked bigger!
Got me.
I wanted to strangle him again...
...and hug him.

:funnypost Kat! my wife look exactly like the lobster when she yelling at me...:tongue1:
You'd better hope she doesn't read through MR when you're out at work..otherwise you'll probably be a dead man for that comment!...lol

Thanks folks, I'm doing a happy dance now that Peter is back..from wherever he was hiding! :)
