nice skimmer but dont think it will be much of a upgrade compared to the er, air draw is close to the same, and the body and neck are actually smaller, love to see pic's, does the gate valve set above or below the water line ?

Thanks Rick. Yeah, I like the skimmer. I wanted to try out a semi-cone and have heard nothing but good things about these new skimmers. People on RC (mostly) who have used both skimmers said the Octo is actually much better than the ER.. (We'll see about that, but...) Plus, the Euro Reef was getting "old" :lol2: ..and was starting to become less reliable with 'age'.

Really though, I'm setting up another system, and needed to purchase a second skimmer. I feel that with the smaller neck it won't require as high a bioload to skim consistently, but will still handle a larger bioload if I choose to upgrade in the future.

The gate valve is nice and adjusts easily. It sits above the water level.

On mine the top of the gate valve output is just a hair below the water, I need to raise it a touch to have the top of the opening just above the water. She is sitting in about 6 1/2 inches of water and is working great.

Eric, keep us updated.

how does the build quality feel ? i know ya had the vertex and ya know how i feel about them, so when i look at the in-expensive skimmers ( under 300 ) i look at material ect. does the body feel solid or like ya could crack it squeezing it ?
