Really the most important thing (right now) regarding controllers is temp control and lights.. So I could buy another dc4 or whatever the 4 outlet powerbar is called for $90. That's it.
Or, I could go all out and get the full Apex, sell my full rkl system and multicontroller and (probably) end up paying between $275-300, depending on how much I get for my sale items. So I'm really looking at an initial outlay of aprox $200 more for the Apex. For features that are definitely nice but not 100% necessary, yet... IMO.

The primary reason for the upgrade is to make the ideal environment for my haddonis and sps corals in the future.

Omg...please go with the Apex...I bought a rkl v3 b/c I got it for a steal and it was only going on the 5.5g and I HATE it! Everything about it is so annoying. I am definitely going Apex for the 40 breeder. Don't waste your money only to turn around and upgrade to the Apex later.
