I got as a gift today a monti superman frag, and when i took it home i noticed a head of aiptasia sticking out of it. The monti is encrusted all around the aiptasia and I dont know how I can kill it without hurting the coral. Does anyone have any ideas that may work on killing the monster without harming my lovely new coral?

Frag the monti and discard the aptasia. The only way to be sure it is gone is to remove ALL of it. I would also qt the monti to make sure no more surface. They can destroy a reef tank quickly as they reproduce at an exponential rate of plague proportions.

well the monti was fragged today, to it is still healing. I really dont want to cut the frag. Maybe I can put the plug in a separate bucket and attempt to cut under the aiptasia?

I have to say I used Aiptasia X and I was really impressed with it. It's very clean to work, little to no spilling, and you can get the syringe right into the Aiptasia without it pulling in. The Aiptasia will actually grab the syringe, then you just need to completely cover the Aiptasia mouth and watch it slowly pull in and die. It's almost like you're gluing the Aiptasia close.

i recommend joe's juice or glue.
you only need to get a little of joe's juice on the head and he's gone. i never see aptasia come back for me.

you just use the syringe it comes with and make sure you squeeze it into the head. you should see it shrivel up and poof. gone.

all that you guys talk about just creates more and more. once u hit it would what your using and it starts to die it releases tiny pieces of it that spreads in your tank. it can take weeks or months before it will grow. you can try lemon juice becuase it wont burn the coral. but i sugest you read up on aiptasia. here is a few link i found that will kill them.

I had aptaisia long ago, I kalked them to get rid of them. So no they don't release tiny pieces and spread from kalk. And yes I have been aptaisia free for the past 2 years.
