Ricordea lost- can they move themselves?

I bought a ricordea and while placing it on top of a rock it must have got caught up in the current and blown somewhere when i turned around. Now i can not find it. Can ricordeas move themselves around and turn themselves over if he got blown inbetwee some rocks or something. Or should i be ripping into the tank to find him.

I had the same thing happen to me. I still have not found him. I don't believe they can move around on their own. So I think you might have to rip up the rock if you really want to find him.

Sooner or later you will find it. And yes they do move around but they need the help of your power heads to do so. I lost one for about 2 months and then found it in a very low light place but it was doing fine.

That happened to me to.. Many times. Then I found out that they are trying to move to more light. So I keep them in an other tank now with much brighter light.

the sometimes detach themselves especially when they start to split. Mine detached itself and then I found it in a clam shell.

Yes ricordia can move on their own if they are very unhappy with their location.
The downside is, at times they come off the rock due to high flow and can get lost in your tank, sometimes never to appear again if they land somewhere where they have no access to light or food. They can also fail to thrive and shrink down to near nothing and melt away (not overly uncommon with Yuma's)

They do move or get buried, especially if you a snail in the tank. the snails will run over everything and make a mess!! try moving the sand around and exposing the possibly buried ricordia. good luck!

and sometimes while blowing around and rolling in the sand the sand sticks to them making it really hard to see, they usually end up behind the rocks it has happened to me and I have ripped 1/4 of the tank to find them persistence is the key. Just the other day a ric on my sandbed got buried from all the current my 2 vortechs are making when I unburied it the ric was elongated about 2 inches as it reached for light after a few hours it was back to normal.
