This is the underside of my tort. When i first bought the piece i noticed a small area of decay, but it has gradually begun to hollow out the area with which it was affected and is growing. Since this piece is one of my fastest growers it isnt really a big deal as the SPS has grown faster than the decay but is this something i should treat with Tropic Marin Pro Cure?

Anyone know what it is? Is it contagious? Almost looks like a bacteria slowly eating away at the tissue.

The other point i should make is that there is high flow by the area. I dont think it is the problem as the tips are closer to the flow and yet it is not affected.

.

no algae problems? there is algae growing on the rock in the pic!

Dont respond if your going to be condescending. I posted my first tank thread and there was a full tank shot. I do not have an algae problem, or at least what i consider one. I do not have hair algae over growing my tank and the algae you see is like a few millimeters.

Anyway that is the problem with this board alot of times. People criticizing others or "flaming".

Also Deanos, I do not think the comment was funny. You are a mod. I am not sure why you would encourage some one to try to put someone down.

FYI these kinds of responses makes it feel like I shouldnt even share my stories or issues. It's just like why bother, when there are going to be wise ass comments. Might as well just enjoy my tank in peace or join NJRC or Reefcentral.

Regardless of the fact that I'm a moderator, your photo shows 2 different kinds of nuisance algae: hair algae below and to the left of the frag and bryopsis in the background just above the coral. Just because you don't believe you have an algae problem, the photos show elevated nutrient levels which doesn't bode well for most acropora corals. That's what I was laughing at. SPS suck. :dead1:

your sps look pretty healthy, polyp extention etc from your previous pictures. If this decay thing gets out of hand, either i would guess dip it or frag it. I have never experienced that kind of thing on my acroporas but either would be a good solution if it starts getting out of hand

or come to think of it, could something be burning it? nonfully mixed salt? I dont know just a guess, anyhow IMO Torts dont do well with high or heavy flow, tissue starts to recede

I understand your point, but Wes has a very valid point as well. You don't know what your parameters are, but assume they are fine because you don't have an algae problem. From the pic you posted I would assume that you have elevated levels of phosphate and possibly nitrate otherwise you wouldn't have the alage in the pic whether you consider it a problem or not. That being said, I am not sure that is the cause of the specific problem you are requesting information on.

A full tank shot would be helpfull, along with some close ups of other corals that you have. It is hard to tell from the pic, but it looks like there are two spots on the coral, an indentation at the bottom and another a little higher up. Is there any tissue loss on either of those spots...am I missing anything?

That is really odd. It doesn't look like STN. One of the quick fixes I've used before is to cover an afflicted area with glue to essentially "cauterize" the wound. Might want to try that.

Phosphate and nitrate readings would also be useful.

Kinda looks like its overgrowing the dead area. My old tort did that after i got it, grew lips around a dead spot when i got it, which is what yours looks like its doing. But i could be wrong. pics are far away and little blurry. And i've only seen a tort do that.
