Hey folks,

Until recently, I thought that my tank just needed some more time before coralline started to take hold - I have some pink and purple spots on my rocks, but they appear to be inert, if that makes sense. However, after getting a CUC from ReefCleaners I got some neon green coralline to take hold, and after a recent introduction from MA I now have the pleasure of constantly scraping dark green coralline off my glass every day :)

I've read that scrapings from someone else's tank will work the same way as those other introductions. Can anyone hook me up with some of the pink / purple / other varieties?

This is what I noticed when I initially started with my reef tank. Green coralline may not need as much Ca as the pink/red coralline. After six months green was the only thing showing in my tank with only some spots of pink and red coralline and I could not understand why. Of course I still was not using proper test kits to measure my params. It got to the point that I was tired of the green coralline. It did not look good all over the tank. With time I got better changing water and maintaining my params to acceptable reef levels Ca 420. Only then I saw the pink and red shoot up. Now I only see very very few spots of green coralline. Of course, now I kind of miss it. Check you Alk / Ca with a good test kit. It maybe low. My deductions may not be far off.

Noted. Thanks for relating your experience! I don't check Alk yet; been putting it off. I'll try to stop by MA and get a kit before the meet.
